BATTLE LINK -- June 28, 2024 -- Day 180 of 366 vs. @atnazo
In this Tier 5 Brawl battle, I defended Fray 20 -- Modern Gold Foil Silver League -- against the skilled opponent @atnazo from our top competition, Summoner's Tribe. The battle called for 55 mana (with a +2 bonus for our guild barracks) and had 3 rulesets: Equal Opportunity, Blood and Sunder, and Lost Magic.
We both had the same idea to gravitate to Astral entity for its evasive dodge ability without the fear of magic attacks. We selected two similar neutral monsters with shield, the retaliating Dumacke Orc and the new Rebellion common Grimbardun Fighter, albeit in different positions.
They had a pair of debuffs in their lineup, with demoralize from Disintegrator and headwinds from Queen of Crows. With the death legendary Harclaw as tank and the aforementioned Dumacke Orc drawing opportunity and sneak attacks in 6th position, the opponent had shield protection on either end of their lineup. Even their choice of Arkemis seemed better for this battle than my greedier play of the double-attacking Drybone Raider.
But the power, strength, and dependability of today's feature card, Mantaroth, was too much to be denied the victory. Mantaroth's true strike shrugged off the dodge granted to my opponent's team by Astral Entity. The real key to unlocking its potential power is leveraging the Equal Opportunity ruleset to make the most of its armor strike second attack.
Since Mantaroth gets an opportunity attack in this ruleset, it can be placed at the back of the lineup to preserve its armor. Typically, Mantaroth has to be placed in the first position and quickly takes damage to its armor. But here, the legendary monster can continue beating down with dual attacks round after round.
I was lucky to take down their Arkemis before it could half the attack of Mantaroth, and the rest is history as we took home the important Silver League win. Back to ranked play tomorrow, as we wind down on Season 137.
