"Bye Mommy, I love you" shouted Lulú the little elephant, as she ran off in a hurry to meet Leti, her new best friend. She was in such a hurry to leave that she left her delicious peanut brittle half-finished on the table.
The day before, mommy rabbit had promised them a big surprise and Lulú couldn't wait to find out what it was all about.
On the way to Leti's house she kept thinking about what it could be. All sorts of wonderful ideas were running through her mind. "I wonder if she baked a delicious carrot cake or better yet! She's having a tea party WITH carrot cake? Oh how exciting" thought Lulú who couldn't wait and decided to run to get there faster!
She was in such a hurry that she didn't even stop to greet Mrs. Turtle who was in the garden watering her lettuce.
"Where will this little elephant go in such a hurry?" she thought, as Lulú crossed the corner so fast that she tripped over her own trunk, rolling until she ended up crashing hard against the door of Leti's house, who was already impatiently waiting for her.
They greeted each other as usual and Leti immediately led her to the back of the house. Halfway there he stopped her and told her in his special code to close her eyes. They took a few more steps and with another signal from Leti, Lulú opened her eyes to find the biggest surprise she had ever imagined.
Lulú could not believe her eyes! In front of her eyes was the most beautiful bicycle she had ever seen! In shades of pink and turquoise, her favorite colors. It had cute colorful balloons and a little basket attached to it, which made it look really beautiful.
They immediately decided to go for a ride taking with them little Roger, Leti's little brother. That was the most fabulous afternoon ever! They strolled through the streets of the village greeting everyone they met on their way. In the absence of a horn, Lulú made a big noise with her long trunk to greet her neighbors.
How happy the three of them were enjoying the beautiful surprise from Mama rabbit.
The days went by and Lulú and Leti's friendship grew stronger every day. Lulú had soon learned the special code to communicate with her friend, who despite all the magic of the Blue Forest was still unable to speak.
But this didn't seem to matter much to our little bunny who forgot everything when she was in the company of her great friend. They lived the greatest adventures in Leti's special garden. Just by letting their imaginations run wild, they could travel to the most amazing places!
One day they were at the beach and the next day they were traveling around the world in a balloon, all this without taking a single step out of the beautiful garden! All they had to do was dream it. A laundry basket magically transformed into a flying boat and a flower pot could be the most fabulous astronaut's helmet.
The days flew by with laughter and games and in the blink of an eye the vacation was over!
"At last, at last" shouted Lulú as she pranced around her mother who was smiling happily. Lulú was so happy to be going back to school that she wanted to show her friend her beautiful new backpack that afternoon.
When she arrived at Leti's house, she was surprised not to find her at the door as usual, but instead, Mommy Rabbit with a worried look on her face.
She told her that something very strange was happening with little Leti, she had not wanted to play and had been very pensive all day. So Lulú went to the garden where she found her sitting on her swing and asked her what was wrong.
Leti was worried about her first day of school. She didn't know anyone else besides Lulú and she still couldn't talk. How was she going to communicate with her classmates? They would probably make fun of her for not being able to speak. thought Leti, who didn't feel like playing today.
Lulú tried to console her as best she could. "You'll see how soon everyone will learn your special code," she told her. "I'll be with you all the time so you don't have to worry". Soon all was forgotten and they were playing happily in the garden waiting with great excitement for the first day of school together!
The weekend flew by, the dreamed day arrived... the first day of school and just as they agreed, Lulú was waiting for Leti at the school entrance.
When she saw her approaching in the company of Mrs. Snow, she ran out to meet her. Leti looked a little worried, but Lulú with a few words of encouragement managed to reassure her a little.
"Good morning, this is Leti... our new companion" said Lulú standing in the middle of the room pointing her trunk at Leti who was still very worried. However, to her surprise, everyone was very nice to her.
Lulú, who already knew the special code, became Leti's official translator and took it upon herself to teach everyone in the school the secret code day after day. That way everyone could talk to her!
Soon Leti realized that even though she couldn't speak like the others, none of her classmates seemed to mind. In fact it was great fun for them to have to communicate by tapping and hopping. That made her special.
Leti's parents who were once sad and worried that their little bunny was unable to talk were now relieved to see her so happy.
For her part, Leti, who lived surrounded by friends in her wonderful blue world, was able to understand that the real miracle was not to be able to speak but to be able to accept herself as she was.
She was able to realize that we are all different and it is those differences that make us special. For example, Ana the giraffe with her long neck could take the apple from the tallest tree in the schoolyard and little mouse Juan could find the best hiding places to play thanks to his tiny size.
Every inhabitant in the blue forest could see with the eyes of the heart and discover in everyone their true value beyond their abilities or qualities. It was not for nothing that the blue fairies gave her such a special gift.

"Chao mamá, te amo" gritó Lulú la pequeña elefantita, mientras salía corriendo a toda prisa al encuentro de Leti, su nueva mejor amiga. Tenía tanta prisa por salir que dejó a medio terminar su delicioso turrón de maní en la mesa.
El día anterior mamá coneja les había prometido una gran sorpresa y Lulú no podía esperar más para saber de qué se trataba todo éste asunto.
Camino a casa de Leti no dejaba de pensar en qué podría ser. Por su mente se paseaban todo tipo de ideas maravillosas. "Será que habrá horneado un delicioso pastel de zanahoria o mejor aún! Habrá preparado una fiesta del té CON pastel de zanahoria?? Oh qué emoción" Pensaba Lulú quien no podía esperar y decidió correr para llegar más rápido!
Iba tan de prisa que ni siquiera se detuvo a saludar a la señora tortuga que se encontraba en el jardín regando sus lechugas.
"A dónde irá tan apresurada ésta elefantita?" Pensó, mientras Lulú cruzaba la esquina tan rápido que tropezó con su propia trompa, rodando hasta terminar chocando con mucha fuerza contra la puerta de la casa de Leti quien ya la esperaba muy impaciente.
Se saludaron como de costumbre y de inmediato Leti la condujo a la parte trasera de la casa. A mitad de camino la detuvo y le indicó en su código especial que cerrara los ojos. Dieron unos pasos más y con otra señal de Leti, Lulú abrió los ojos para encontrarse con la más grande sorpresa que jamás imagino.
Lulú no podía creer lo que veía! Delante de sus ojos se encontraba la más hermosa bicicleta que había visto jamás! En tonos rosa y turquesa sus colores favoritos. Tenía sujetos unos lindos globos de colores y una pequeña cesta qué la hacía lucir realmente hermosa .
De inmediato decidieron dar un paseo llevando consigo al pequeño Roger, el hermanito de Leti. Ésa fue la tarde más fabulosa de todas! Pasearon por las calles del pueblo saludando a todos los que encontraban a su paso. A falta de bocina Lulú hacía un gran ruido con su larga trompa para saludar a sus vecinos.
Qué felices estaban los tres disfrutando de la hermosa sorpresa de Mamá coneja.
Los días pasaban y la amistad de Lulú y Leti crecía cada día más. Lulú en poco tiempo había aprendido el código especial para comunicarse con su amiga, quien a pesar de toda la magia del Bosque Azul aún seguía si poder hablar.
Pero ésto parecía no importarle mucho a nuestra pequeña conejita quien se olvidaba de todo cuando se encontraba en compañía de su gran amiga. Vivían las más grandes aventuras en el jardín especial de Leti. Con sólo dejar volar su imaginación se trasladaban a los más sorprendentes lugares!
Un día estaban en la playa y al otro viajaban en globo por el mundo entero todo esto sin dar un solo paso fuera del hermoso jardín! Sólo tenían que soñarlo. Un cesto de ropa se transformaba mágicamente en un barco volador y una maceta podía ser el más fabuloso casco de astronauta.
Los días transcurrían veloces entre risas y juegos y en un abrir y cerrar de ojos las vacaciones terminaron!
"Al fin, al fin" gritaba Lulú mientras daba brincos al rededor de su madre quien sonreía alegremente. Lulú estaba tan feliz de regresar al colegio que ésa misma tarde quiso mostrarle a su amiga su hermoso morral nuevo.
Al llegar casa de Leti se sorprendió al no encontrarla en la puerta como de costumbre y en su lugar estaba mamá coneja con cara de preocupación.
Le contó que algo muy extraño sucedía con la pequeña Leti, no había querido jugar y estuvo muy pensativa todo el día. Así que Lulú se dirigió hasta el jardín dónde la encontró sentada en su columpio y le pregunto qué sucedía.
Leti estaba preocupada por su primer día de clases. No conocía a nadie más aparte de Lulú y además aún no podía hablar. Cómo iba a comunicarse con sus demás compañeros? Seguramente se burlarían de ella por no poder hablar. Pensaba Leti, quién hoy no tenía ganas de jugar.
Lulú trato de consolarla lo mejor que pudo. "Ya vas a ver cómo muy pronto todos van a aprender tu código especial", le dijo. "Yo estaré contigo todo el tiempo así que no tienes de qué preocuparte" Al poco tiempo todo estaba olvidado y jugaban felices en el jardín esperando con mucha ilusión el primer día de clases juntas!
El fin de semana pasó volando, llegó el día soñado... primer día de escuela y tal como lo acordaron, Lulú esperaba a Leti en la entrada del colegio.
Al verla acercarse en compañía de la Señora Nieve, salió corriendo a su encuentro. Leti lucía un poco preocupada, pero Lulú con algunas palabras de ánimo logró tranquilizarla un poco.
"Buenos días, ella es Leti... nuestra nueva compañera" dijo Lulú parada en medio del salon señalando con su trompa a Leti quien aún estaba muy preocupada. Sin embargo para su sorpresa, todos fueron muy amables con ella.
Lulú quien ya conocía el código especial se convirtió en la traductora oficial de Leti y se encargó día a día de enseñarles a todos en la escuela el código secreto. De esa manera todos podían hablar con ella!
Muy pronto Leti se dio cuenta que aunque no podía hablar como los demás a ninguno de sus compañeros parecía importarle. De hecho les resultaba sumamente divertido tener que comunicarse con golpecitos y brincos. Éso la hacía especial.
Los padres de Leti que en un tiempo estuvieron tristes y preocupados porque su pequeña conejita no era capaz de hablar ahora respiraban aliviados al verla tan feliz.
Por su parte, Leti, quien vivía rodeada de amigos en su maravilloso mundo azul pudo entender que el verdadero milagro no era lograr hablar sino poder aceptarse tal y como era.
Pudo darse cuenta que todos somos diferentes y son ésas diferencias las que nos hacen especiales. Por ejemplo Ana la jirafa con su cuello tan largo podía tomar la manzana del árbol más alto en el patio de la escuela y el pequeño ratoncito Juan encontraba los mejores escondites a la hora de jugar gracias a su diminuto tamaño.
Cada habitante en el bosque azul podía ver con los ojos del corazón y descubrir en cada uno su verdadero valor más allá de sus capacidades o cualidades. No en vano las Hadas azules le dieron ése regalo tan especial.
Lulú y Leti siguieron viviendo las más grandes aventuras; imaginarias y reales en su mágico mundo azul. Quizá más adelante vuelvas a escuchar de ellas...
