It was Saturday and mum was going to leave the house, she wanted me not to go anywhere, but when she left, I went out with my friends to the bush in search of mushroom, we found some in the bush near the house but we continued to go deeper into the bush in search of it, then inside the bush it became dark and none of us could know our way out of the bush.

We started looking for this mushroom from 10am and it was getting dark, around 4:46pm, me and my friends were still looking for our way out of the bush, I remember mum had told me not to leave the house today, but I refuse and went out because I want to eat mushrooms.

Luckily for us, we came across a hunter, whose dog made him aware of our presence, as it was getting late and night was approaching, we were afraid of who might be coming, the dog came to where we were and started barking and the hunter noticed something was there, he had no idea it could be humans, he thought it was animal, I noticed he put his gun ready to shoot, he left all the things he was concentrating on and came to where we were.

His torch landed on my face and, he asked us to come out and not to be freighten, I started to gather my strength, still holding my basket full of mushrooms and my friends too, he asked us, "why were we hiding"?
I replied that as it was getting dark, we didn't know who was coming.

"But you didn't want to sleep here in the bush, did you?", that was his last statement, he takes us as far as we could understand our way back home, it was then that we discovered that we had really gone into the bush just looking for mushrooms.

We get home and my mother has already started asking people to please look for me, she was not herself, my younger siblings even told her to be calm that I would be back, When she sees me, she hugs me so long and draws my left cheek, "why did I leave the house", she asked me. I was as dumbfounded as I was at that moment.

My friends who lived so close to us, mothers too, were happy that their children came home, mum took my basket full of mushroom and said, "I shouldn't have left home to the bush when I was so young, how did I expect to leave the bush?

The mushroom is a good plant, she knows that, but it can't compare to me, so I shouldn't have tried it another time, I went into the house and mom had kept rice and chicken for me, I ate and became satisfied, until I slept that night, mother visited our room more than five times, just to check if I was there and she also checked on my siblings.

She would point her lamp at us, and check if any of us were sleeping in such a way that we would have pains in the morning, I realised how much she cared for us, and what I put her through, while going in search of mushrooms when it was not necessary and I could not find my way out.

I told myself that I would never again try to go out without her permission, so as not to make mum's day sad, whenever I wanted to go out, I would tell her and she would pray for me to go and come back safe and sound, to this day, mum is still pray for me.
