El fundamento del liderazgo: Carácter / The foundation of leadership: Character

Saludos amada comunidad de @holos-lotus, es un honor para mí seguir con una nueva publicación de nuestra columna de liderazgo como maestría de vida. Sabemos que el Liderazgo es la influencia que tenemos hacía nosotros mismos y hacia nuestro entorno, con el fin de tener crecimiento personal, logro de nuestras metas, sueños y contribuir en la construcción de una mejor sociedad.

El Liderazgo es un trabajo diario consciente que requiere paciencia, persistencia, constancia y sobre todo mucho amor. Cada uno de nosotros además de contar con dones talentos, habilidades, cualidades únicas, también poseemos debilidades y áreas de mejora, por eso al ser observadores conscientes de nuestros pensamientos, sentimientos, emociones y acciones avanzaremos.

El carácter en el liderazgo ha sido personalmente un desafío para mí, tengo más de 11 años trabajando con equipos de personas y para eso se requiere trabajar mucho nuestro carácter, es una tarea que no acaba. Si tienes la intención de ser tu mejor versión cada día, debes trabajar en tu carácter con persistencia.

Particularmente en un tiempo fuí una persona bastante delicada, la voz de autoridad, los problemas me causaban ansiedad, temor y eso es falta de carácter, sufrí mucho con esta situación, evadía conversaciones que requerían confrontación, y cuando evadimos el problema incrementa hasta un punto que explotar y ya no se puede corregir.

Entendí que debía empezar a trabajar en mí carácter, me volví fan de los libros del gran John Maxwell, fuí a un evento de él en el forum de la ciudad de Valencia en mi país Venezuela, también lo ví en un magno evento llamado Go Pro que se realiza en las Vegas.Clnlxerlo y escucharlo fue un despertar, si queremos mejorar debemos estudiar a los grandes que son autoridad en el tema que te interesa.

¿Cómo saber si tienes deficiencia en tu carácter? Te invito a hacerte las siguientes preguntas:

1. ¿Me siento superior a los que trabajan para mí?
2. ¿Pones tu éxito personal delante del de otros?
3. ¿Eres un planificador obsesivo sin capacidad para fluir?
4. ¿Siempre estás ocupado, pensar que eres indispensable, enemigo de la humildad y el servicio?
5. ¿Eres enjuiciador de otros, chismoso, te quejas constantemente?
6. ¿Idólatras a tus superiores?
7. ¿Solo piensas en tí mismo siendo indiferente a las necesidades de otros?
8. ¿Eres severo?
9. ¿Desequilibrio entre tu trabajo y otras áreas de tu vida?

Esto es solo un ejemplo, realmente podría seguir escribiendo sin parar, lo importante es saber que él carácter se trabaja y es un esfuerzo que nunca termina pues no somos seres perfectos sin embargo vale la pena intentarlo.

Deseo hablarte de cuatro dimensiones del carácter que menciona Tim Irwin en su libro (descarrilado) : autenticidad, autogestión, humildad y valor.
Autenticidad: tiene que ver con vivir una vida transparente, ser capaz de compartir tus éxitos pero también tus fracasos sin pretender impresionar a nadie. Nuestras caídas son parte de nuestra vida, de nuestra humanidad, aceptar y abrazar nuestra oscuridad es parte de ser auténticos.

Max lucado dice: "Dios prefiere que caminemos con una cojera ocasional que con un pavoneo continuo"

Autogestión: el carácter no tiene que ver con inteligencia sino con tomar decisiones correctas que le permitan ser coherente s pensando en el bien común y personal.

Humildad: uno de los aspectos más importante , a veces nos enfocamos en cambiar a los demás es vernos a nosotros mismos. Para reconocer nuestras heridas, defectos, caídas se requiere humildad. Hay un curioso sentimiento en los grandes hombres y es que dicen que la grandeza no es suya sino que pasa a través de ellos, simplemente son el vehículo para impactar la vida de otros.

Valor: el valor nos empodera para hacer lo correcto a pesar del miedo, el temor, la flojera. Algo importante el carácter no se desarrolla en la calma y la quietud sino a través de pruebas, procesos, desiertos, sufrimiento y para esto se requiere valor.

A veces nos tocará liderar nuestras propias familias y llevarlos a dónde aún nosotros no hemos llegado, para esto requeriras carácter.

Para finalizar deseo compartirte un poema que compartió Jonh Maxwell.

El espejo y yo
Cuando me miro en el espejo, ¿qué veo?
Reflejos de un yo con dos caras.
Una cara es todo lo que siempre he deseado ser.
Pero mi mayor problema me mira fijamente.
Hay veces en que me apresuro a adelantarme, y me encuentro liderando cuando necesito que me líderen.
Es necesario el valor, ¿Cómo puedo venderme?
¿Cómo puedo liderar a otros con autenticidad?
Recordaré lo mejor y lo peor de mí.
Hacer esto logrará que siga creciendo en humildad.
Buscaré por ahí a otros más fieles que yo,
Y les pediré ayuda con mis vulnerabilidades.
Liderar y hacer lo correcto, esa es mi posibilidad.
Para hacerlo, visitaré mi espejo regularmente.

We know that Leadership is the influence we have towards ourselves and our environment, in order to have personal growth, achieve our goals, dreams and contribute in building a better society.

Leadership is a conscious daily work that requires patience, persistence, constancy and above all a lot of love. Each of us in addition to having gifts, talents, skills, unique qualities also possess weaknesses and areas for improvement, so by being conscious observers of our thoughts, feelings, emotions and actions we will move forward.

Character in leadership has personally been a challenge for me, I have over 11 years working with teams of people and that requires a lot of work on our character, it is a never ending task. If you intend to be your best version every day, you must work on your character with persistence.

Particularly at a time I was a very delicate person, the voice of authority, the problems caused me anxiety and that is lack of character, I suffered a lot with this situation, I avoided conversations that required confrontation, and when we avoid the problem increases to a point that explode can not be corrected.

I understood that I had to start working on my character, I became a fan of the books of the great Johns Maxwell, I went to an event of his in the forum of the city of Valencia in my country Venezuela, I also saw him in a great event called Go Pro that takes place in Las Vegas. If we want to improve we must study the greats who are authorities in the subject you are interested in.

How do you know if you have a deficiency in your character? I invite you to ask yourself the following questions:

1. Do I feel superior to those who work for me?
2. Do you put your personal success ahead of others?
3. Are you an obsessive planner with no ability to flow?
4. Are you always busy, thinking you are indispensable, the enemy of humility and service?
5. Are you judgmental of others, gossipy, constantly complaining?
6. Do you idolize your superiors?
7. Do you think only of yourself, being indifferent to the needs of others?
8. Are you harsh?
9. Are you unbalanced between your work and other areas of your life?

This is just an example, I could really go on writing endlessly, the important thing is to know that character is a work in progress and it is an effort that never ends because we are not perfect beings, but it is worth trying.

I wish to talk to you about four dimensions of character that Tim Irwin mentions in his book (derailed) : authenticity, self-management, humility and courage.
Authenticity: it has to do with living a transparent life, being able to share your successes but also your failures without trying to impress anyone. Our downfalls are part of our life, of our humanity, accepting and embracing our darkness is part of being authentic.

Max lucado says: "God would rather we walk with an occasional limp than with a continuous strut."

Self-management: character is not about intelligence but about making the right decisions that allow you to be consistent s thinking about the common and personal good.

Humility: one of the most important aspects, sometimes we focus on changing others is to look at ourselves. To recognize our wounds, defects, falls, humility is required. There is a curious feeling in great men and they say that greatness is not theirs but that it passes through them, they are simply the vehicle to impact the lives of others.

Courage: Courage empowers us to do the right thing in spite of fear, trepidation, laziness. Importantly, character is not developed in calm and stillness but through trials, processes, deserts, suffering and this requires courage.

Sometimes it will be our turn to lead our own families and take them where we have not yet arrived, for this you will need character.

Finally, I would like to share with you a poem that John Maxwell shared.

The Mirror and Me
When I look in the mirror, what do I see?
Reflections of a self with two faces.
One face is everything I've always wanted to be.
But my biggest problem stares back at me.
There are times when I rush to get ahead, and find myself leading when I need to be led.
Courage is needed, how can I sell myself?
How can I lead others with authenticity?
I will remember my best and my worst.
Doing this will keep me growing in humility.
I will look around for others who are more faithful than I am,
And ask them for help with my vulnerabilities.
To lead and do the right thing, that's my chance.
To do so, I will visit my mirror regularly.
