This Greater Banded Hornet (Vespa tropica) has become a regular visitor to our banana flowers every morning. Widespread in southern Asia, it's a formidible beast with a body length of an inch or more and is better known for preying on other wasps, particularly raiding nests and taking the larva back to their own nest to feed their young. However, this one seems to prefer a sugary breakfast.
