Hello there, my fellow artisans and handcrafts enthusiasts!

We're back for more house chores and yes, more plumbing. This is the last post I have about going out from the usual woodworking theme. There were some faucets and shower heads to change in the bathrooms and kitchen. So, first we need to cut the water supply to the house and then we can begin.

Let's get right to it!

Shower heads

After installing the other showers, we still had some others to put in place. This time, the shower heads inside the actual shower space in the bathroom. The old ones were more than 10 years old. They worked, but since we've had had too much problems with water lately, they had gathered a lot of mod. So, they were sort of clogged. There are ways to prevent this. Giving the shower heads a soak in vinegar and water each month will remove any sediment in it.

Since that's not common practice in the house, they clogging was too much for this method. Thus, the need for a change.

It isn't too difficult. We just remove the old ones. Then, comes the fun part of putting together the new shower heads. They come with many pieces, but they can be summarized in two, the head and the pipe. The latter needs a bit of teflon tape to prevent any leaks. The head is a bit more complex. The neck of this head is composed of several pieces that come together to give it the possibility of movement. Just like our neck, these ones can rotate. The whole thing has a contraption of a ball bearing between two other pieces that give it this property.

Once it is assembled, you just need more teflon tape and screw it in place.

These showers have a different system. They are way more simple than the older ones. So they need to get full with water before it actually starts letting it go. In the same way, they need let go all the water inside once you close the water.

Faucets

My mom had gotten the previous faucets last year and she wasn't happy with them. Something about the handles didn't work well. They had a trick and if you didn't put them in the right position, you'll be hearing the water drops all day.

These new ones are more elegant. The process for this is simple. First, remove the hoses from the faucet. These are located in the ugly part of the sink. Then, loosen the nuts from the mounting bolts. Faucets usually have two of these bolts to fasten them to the sink. After it is loose, you can remove the old faucet. You might need to clean since water usually comes with some debris. Faucets usually have filters for this.

Then, mount the new faucet. Fasten the nuts to the mounting bolts. They might come with some rubber pieces to make it easier to attach them to the sink. Then, roll some teflon tape to the end of the bolts. Finally, connect the hoses again.

Lastly, you'll need to open the water to test if there are any leaks.

And, lo, I did have some issues with leaks this time. Faucets are annoying. Fortunately, it was easy to fix. But I did get myself all soaked up.

The last faucet was from the kitchen. The old one had a problem. I can't actually remember what it was. But it was time to change. Along with it, I needed a new hose since one nut from the old one was all rusty. Setting it loose was a problem.

This new faucet reminds me of the ones in restaurants. It has a flexible head and you can move it anywhere. It also has two modes. One sprays waters like a shower; the other, in one stream. I think this one was the easiest change of that whole day. And fortunately, there won't be any more plumbing chores for a long time. Or so I hope.
