Happy Monday, friends of Hive & Needle Work Monday. It's been a long time since my last sewing blog, so I'm excited to get back to writing updates on this. Even though I'm always behind the scenes in our community, I miss doing my own sewing projects while looking at the cute work you all do on a daily basis. Luckily, sewing is like riding a bike, so even though it's been eight months since I last threaded the machine, these skills are something you never forget 😅.
Feliz lunes, amigos de Hive & Needle Work Monday. Ha pasado un largo tiempo desde mi último blog de costura, por lo que estoy muy emocionada de volver a escribir novedades sobre esto. A pesar de que siempre estoy detrás de escena en nuestra comunidad, extraño hacer mis propios proyectos de costura mientras miro los lindos trabajos que todos ustdedes hacen a diario. Por suerte, coser es como andar en bicicleta, por lo que a pesar de que hace ocho meses que no enhebraba la máquina, estos conocimientos son algo que nunca se olvidan 😅.
The nomadic adventure I undertook last year first had me away from home for two months, with a three-week visit in between, and then I was back on the road and working for another six months. The time flew by, with an incredible summer season among mountains and beautiful landscapes. I was glad to have invested my time in getting to know my country, but returning home is always nice. You need to catch up with things back home and miss your sedentary life a bit, with all the things you couldn't pack in your backpack and the friends and family you haven't seen in a while 🙂.
La aventura nómade que emprendí el año pasado primero me tuvo dos meses fuera de casa, con una visita de tres semanas en el medio, para más tarde volver a estar paseando y trabajando por otros seis meses más. El tiempo voló, con una temporada de verano increíble entre montañas y paisajes hermosos. Me alegré de haber invertido mi tiempo en conocer mi país, pero volver a mi casa siempre es agradable. Uno necesita ponerse al día con sus cosas en la ciudad de origen y extraña un poco su vida sedentaria, con todas las cosas que no pudo empacar en la mochila y los amigos y familia que no vio hace tiempo 🙂.

Since I got home again a month ago, I've only been doing a few minor alterations, like shrinking pants, sewing hems, changing zippers. You can imagine all the sewing work accumulated while the house seamstress was away. On my list of my own things to do, I put back on my list the making of several lingerie sets, as the ones I had made in previous months need to be renewed. I also bought a pair of pants at the fair that I was thinking of modifying a bit and have been pondering what to do with it, although I still haven't decided 🙃.
Desde que llegué a mi casa nuevamente hace un mes, solo estuve haciendo unos cuantos arreglos menores, como achicar pantalones, coser dobladillos, cambiar cierres. Se imaginarán todo el trabajo de costura acumulado mientras la costurera de la casa estaba ausente. En mi lista de cosas propias para hacer volví a anotar la confección de varios conjuntos de lencería, ya que los que había hecho en meses anteriores necesitan renovarse. También compré un pantalón en la feria que pensaba modificar un poco y estuve meditando qué hacer con él, aunque todavía no me decido 🙃.

This is a snow pant, an item I didn't have but will need on one of my next trips in three weeks. It seems to be from a good brand: it's very heavy and the materials look high quality, so for its $5 price at the show it seemed more than a bargain to me. Two points against it are that the size is larger than mine and that this vibrant red color comes out of the dark clothing I wear all the time. But for $5 my friends, lauramica is going to wear it without complaint 😂.
Este es un pantalón de nieve, una prenda que no tenía pero que necesitaré en uno de mis próximos viajes en tres semanas. Parece ser de una buena marca: es muy pesado y los materiales se ven de alta calidad, por lo que por su precio de $5 en la feria me pareció más que un regalo. Dos puntos en contra son que la talla es más grande que la mía y que este color rojo vibrante sale de la ropa dark que uso siempre. Pero por $5 amigos míos, lauramica lo va a usar sin ninguna queja 😂.
Last night I was trying to make it a little bit smaller, but it is really difficult because the fabric is thick and double, plus it has a straight seam in the front that would give away that it is shrunk. My family thinks it's not that big and since it's for the snow, it needs to be a little loose so I can move well and also wear more clothes underneath. What do you think? In case it doesn't fit the width of the legs, what it definitely needs is an extra elastic at the bottom cuff, which looks pretty worn out. Its previous owner did wear it quite a bit 😅.
Anoche estuve haciendo unas pruebas de achicarlo un poco, pero es realmente difícil porque la tela es gruesa y doble, además de que tiene una costura recta en frente que delataría que está achicado. Mi familia opina que no me queda tan enorme y que al ser para la nieve, es necesario que me quede algo holgado para poder moverme bien y también poder usar más ropa debajo. ¿Ustedes qué opinan? En caso de que no le ajuste el ancho de las piernas, lo que definitivamente necesita es un elástico extra en el puño inferior, el cuál se nota bastante gastado. Su anterior dueño sí que lo usó bastante 😅.
On the other hand, a sewing project that I have been dragging since February 19 of this year is an outfit for this baby doll that I found in Bariloche. This little baby was lying on the sidewalk and I saw it while I was on my way to visit my friend. He looked in good condition and I didn't even hesitate to pick him up, so since then he has been traveling with me and scaring my companions. Some people told me that you shouldn't pick up dolls from the street because they may have spirits in them. Had you heard about this? 🤣
Por otro lado, un proyecto de costura que vengo arrastrando precisamente desde el 19 de febrero de este año es un outfit para este muñeco bebé que me encontré en Bariloche. Este pequeño bebote estaba tirado en la vereda y lo ví mientras iba camino a visitar a mi amigo. Se veía en buen estado y ni dudé en levantarlo, así que desde entonces estuvo viajando conmigo y asustando a mis compañeros. Hay quienes me dijeron que no se debe levantar muñecos de la calle porque pueden tener espíritus incorporados. ¿Habían oído sobre esto? 🤣

Devil or not, this baby was on a trip with me in Bariloche, El Bolsón and Esquel, in the south of Argentina. I hope he liked the nomadic life, because his new owner was just in her backpacking stage. Now back in Buenos Aires, I plan to make her some cute outfit to give to my goddaughter. I like to make small sewing projects and I have already made clothes for Barbie style dolls, but never for a baby, so it will be a new challenge 😃.
Endemoniado o no, este bebé estuvo de viaje conmigo en Bariloche, El Bolsón y Esquel, en el sur de Argentina. Espero que le haya gustado la vida nómada, porque su nueva dueña justo estaba en su etapa mochilera. Ahora de vuelta en Buenos Aires, planeo hacerle algún outfit lindo para poder regalarselo a mi ahijada. Me gusta hacer proyectos pequeños de costura y ya hice ropa para muñecas estilo Barbie, pero nunca para un bebé así que será un nuevo desafío 😃.
After all these months away from home, when I sat down to sew again, I first had to do a deep cleaning for the machine. I'm the only one who uses it in my house, so the dust and lint buildup was terrible. Getting back into my favorite hobby was one of the things I was most looking forward to doing when I was out and about. Sewing is one of my therapies, which lets me express my creativity and also tests my patience. I'm glad to be able to get down to work once again ❤️.
Después de todos estos meses fuera de casa, cuando me senté nuevamente a coser, primero tuve que hacer una limpieza profunda para la máquina. Soy la única que la usa en mi casa, así que la acumulación de polvo y pelusas era terrible. Reencontrarme con mi pasatiempo preferido fue una de las cosas que más anhelaba hacer cuando estaba paseando. La costura es una de mis terapias, que me deja expresar mi creatividad y también pone a prueba mi paciencia. Me alegra poder poner manos a la obra una vez más ❤️.
