Hummingbirds nesting at home
A few days ago I observed the presence of a beautiful Hummingbird in the garden, when I paid attention to him I noticed that he was building a nest, he was bringing small rolls of fibers, actually I have no idea what it was or where he got them from, the truth is that he finished his construction very fast and stayed there all day.
Observing this particular little bird I could notice that they are very brave and territorial, he barely finished his nest and a couple of canaries were stalking him, this behavior made me curious, I don't know if they wanted to keep his nest or something, but the hummingbird was always alert and didn't allow them to approach him, so the canaries stopped bothering.
The same thing happened with Mr. E'ñau (the house cat), when he was in the garden corridor or at the door, the hummingbird flew repeatedly making a very particular sound and passed quickly in front of him, although the cat seemed to ignore it, every time the little bird got upset we immediately opened the door to prevent the cat from hurting him.
After a few days I had two little chicks, their beaks barely distinguishable, ajar, sticking out of the nest, silently waiting for food.
I thought a lot about how to take pictures to avoid stressing them and on several occasions I waited for the adult hummingbird to leave the nest to look for food and I approached it, not a minute passed and it flew back protecting its chicks, so I opted to move away and try again later, that's how I managed to take some pictures.
In the photograph, you can barely make out the hummingbird in the wiring, stressed by my presence near the nest.
His nest is very special, it looks soft on the inside and is very well built, on the outside it has pieces of very small leaves that serve as camouflage, presumably they must choose the construction material very well, it has to be a plant that adheres to the wall of the nest, in general, it looks really cozy.
This experience gave me food for thought in two ways:
The first is that it brings back very fond memories of childhood in the country house, when I was a child the hummingbirds would arrive to feed on the flower and I dreamed of touching them and wondered what their nests were like, their little chicks, it was quite a sensation to see them arrive and leave very quickly. That sound emitted by their wings and the hummingbirds' own chirping takes me back in time and takes me to the countryside.
In my sister Maigualida's house they often come to the flowers of trinitarias and curari, a few months ago they started to build a nest, but they did not finish it, it was a very low branch and it would not be convenient for them.
The second is the importance of connecting with nature and above all respect for every living being on our planet.
In the case of hummingbirds, their function is nothing more and nothing less than pollination, thanks to them an immense amount of flowers reproduce, so we should thank them for making our planet colorful.
These birds are really extraordinary, their dedication and industriousness to make their nest, the care and protection of their chicks, their fast flight and even in all directions and that beautiful iridescent plumage make them my favorite bird.
I wonder if they nested in the garden with the need to be protected, I really don't know and I see them so vulnerable on a low, thin branch.
Still, at home we feel privileged to host such beautiful and wonderful living beings, we will be vigilant to protect and admire them.

Colibríes anidando en casa
Hace unos días observé la presencia de un hermoso Colibrí en el jardín, al prestarle atención noté que estaba construyendo un nido, traía pequeños rollos de fibras, en realidad no tengo idea de que era o de donde las sacaba, lo cierto es que terminó su construcción muy rápido y permanecía allí todo el día.
Observando esta avecilla en particular pude notar que son muy valientes y territoriales, apenas terminó su nido y una pareja de canarios lo acechaba, este comportamiento me causó curiosidad, no sé si deseaban quedarse con su nido o algo parecido, pero el colibrí estaba siempre alerta y no permitía que se le acercarán, así que los canarios dejaron de molestar.
Lo mismo ocurría con el Sr. E'ñau (el gato de la casa), cuando estaba en el pasillo del jardín o en la puerta, el colibrí volaba repetidas veces haciendo un sonido muy particular y pasaba velozmente delante de él, aunque el gato parecía ignorarlo, cada vez que el pajarito se alteraba inmediatamente abríamos la puerta para evitar que el gato lo lastimara.
Al cabo de unos días ya tenía dos pequeños pichones, apenas se distinguían sus picos entreabiertos, sobresaliendo del nido, en silencio, a la espera de alimento.
Pensé mucho en cómo tomar las fotografías para evitar estresarlos y en varias ocasiones esperé a que el colibrí adulto saliera del nido a buscar alimento y me acercaba, no pasaba un minuto y volaba de regreso protegiendo a sus pajaritos, así que optaba por alejarme e intentarlo luego, así fue como logré tomar algunas fotografías.
En la fotografía, apenas puede distinguirse el colibrí en el cableado, estresado ante mi presencia cerca del nido.
Su nido es muy especial, se ve suave en el interior y está muy bien construido, en la parte exterior tiene trozos de hojas muy pequeñas que le sirven de camuflaje, es de suponer que deben escogerlas muy bien el material de construcción, tiene que ser una planta que se adhiera a la pared del nido, en general, se ve realmente acogedor.
Esta experiencia me hizo reflexionar en dos sentidos:
El primero es que me trae muy gratos recuerdos de la infancia en la casa del campo, cuando era niña llegaban los colibríes a alimentarse de las cayenas rojas y yo soñaba con tocarlos y me preguntaba cómo eran sus nidos, sus pichones pequeños, eran toda una sensación verlos llegar y marcharse muy rápidamente. Ese sonido que emiten sus alas y el piar propio de los colibríes me traslada en el tiempo y me lleva al campo.
En casa de mi hermana Maigualida llegan con frecuencia a las flores de trinitarias y curarí, hace unos meses comenzaron a fabricar un nido, pero no lo culminaron, era una rama muy baja y no sería conveniente para ellos.
El segundo, es la importancia de conectar con la naturaleza y sobre todo el respeto por cada ser vivo de nuestro planeta.
En el caso de los colibríes, su función es nada más y nada menos que la polinización, gracias a ellos se reproducen una inmensa cantidad de flores, así que debemos agradecerles por hacer nuestro planeta colorido.
Estas aves son realmente extraordinarias, su dedicación y laboriosidad para hacer su nido, el cuidado y protección de sus polluelos, su vuelo rápido e incluso en todas las direcciones y ese plumaje tornasol tan hermoso los convierten en mi ave favorita.
Me pregunto si anidaron en el jardín con la necesidad de estar protegidos, realmente no lo sé y los veo tan vulnerables en una rama baja y delgada.
Aun así, en casa nos sentimos privilegiados por hospedar a seres vivos tan bonitos y maravillosos, estaremos atentos para protegerlos y admirarlos.
