Greetings, Hiveans! A pleasure to see one of my favourite contests — Alphabet Hunt — is back to life, this time run in Bangladesh community (check the rules and bravely join in).
This week was for D; my picks: Dollar / Digger / Driftwood / Dew / Ducklings / Dressing, all in all - 6 words and 8 photos, and no leftovers! 🙃

Dollar.

Finding an image of a 'dollar' today is as hard as finding your own left hand... but the dollar wasn't the first word that came to my mind. I decided to look for words in my stamps collection. I immediately found 'China' for the previous round (though didn't use it) and 'Dollar'... I considered this would add an extra challenge — and thus more fun! A glossary of philatelic terms contains quite a bit of curious paraphernalia (by the way, that’s a great word starting with 'P' — I’ll keep it for the future round!).

I certainly couldn't find an item / concept corresponding to every letter ; some are quite abstract and hard to illustrate with a photo, and it’s obviously impossible to come up with six different words for each required letter... but I’ve found plenty of interesting references and plan to dilute my ABC posts with philately examples. For 'D' letter there also exist Disinfected (fumigated) mail and Dead letter (undelivered) mail -- of which I have none! So, my other 5 picks will be non-philatelical.

Digger(s).

Making sand castles by the sea...

Dew.

Morning dew on a cobweb -- this entry also surfaced in my mind last week, when I was thinking out 'C'. I decided it goes better this way.

Ducklings.

It was a while I had a dream of capturing great crested grebe and coot chicks. This year that dream finally came true! I took a huge number of photos — enough to fill a dozen posts. I suspect the main challenge here is simply being in the right place at the right time; the stage when the chicks keep red skin on their heads and reddish feathers lasts a very short while...

Driftwood.

I love walking along the seashore (who doesn’t?) examining what the sea brings up, breathing in the scent of decaying seaweed, and, of course, documenting the most remarkable finds. Driftwood is hard to classify as a "remarkable" find, yet there happen certain pieces that push your finger onto camera's trigger — like this boy, dragging along a small 'stick' five meters long. A walking cane, heh heh.

One more example of driftwood - might be a more picturesque one, with less #streetphoto aftertaste.

Dressing.

The last one, but not the least: it is hard to take a cool photo of dressing that will not look as trivia. Hope I managed to nail it here. I recommend to accompany watching the photo with a playback of The Cure's "Dressing Up (to Kiss)".

(Dew)

(Driftwood)

Ducklings

Dressing

The Cure «Dressing Up (to Kiss)».
