alternatetext

The Commuter is a 2018 American action thriller film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Liam Neeson, Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Jonathan Banks, and Sam Neill. It follows a man who is unwittingly recruited into a murder conspiracy after meeting a mysterious woman while on his daily train commute.

Michael MacCauley (Neeson) is a former NYPD officer turned insurance salesman who takes the same daily train commute on the Hudson Line from Tarrytown to Grand Central Terminal. He is abruptly laid off from his job, endangering his family's financial security. Waiting to reveal his dismissal to his wife and son, he instead confides in Murphy, his ex-partner still on the police force. On the train home, Michael meets a mysterious woman, Joanna (Farmiga), who proposes a "hypothetical" situation: she asks him to locate "Prynne," the alias of an unknown passenger whom Joanna claims has a stolen item.

Michael is initially reluctant, but he eventually agrees to help Joanna. He quickly realizes, however, that he is in over his head. The train is full of dangerous criminals, and Michael is forced to use all of his skills to stay alive and protect his family.

The Commuter is a fast-paced and suspenseful thriller. It is also a thought-provoking film that explores themes of identity, morality, and the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones.

The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing over $119 million at the box office. It was praised for its action sequences, its performances, and its suspenseful plot.
