Social media sabotaging our Sleep.

Recently, I came across a news article which were defining the sleeping hours of different individuals. Sleep is the necessity ofbour life. It is important way of relaxing our mind and body. A proper sleep alwsys ensure a smooth starts of another day. As per the article, while a newborn i.e 0-3 months old needs 14 to 17 hours of sleep, an old man of 65 years and above need 7-8 hours of sleep. As far as people of middle age between 18-60 years a 7 hours of sleep during the day is sufficient. On the other hand students of 6-17 years needs a sleep 8-10 hours. Different body different requirement. However, since we are exposed to social media the sleeping pattern has changed drastically. We can observe a indefinite sleep pattern among all the age groups. But we never wondered how this relentless stream of social media content is affecting our sleep.

The evolution of social media has transform people's lifestyle. People find it as a better way to interact and entertain on the virtual platform. The influence of different social media platform has cause major effect in everyone. There is complete change of cycle, from waking hours to eating hours to other things. Social media just influence the life of every individuals. People who spend more time on social media are more prone to experiencing sleep disturbances. We heard of news that many influencer took some extreme steps or went through some hard time on the platform. Extensive use of social media me results in :

  • poorer sleep quality
  • conflicting nightmares.
  • mental anxiety
  • nightmares due to excess competition
  • disturbing news and stories.

I have been to one such situation during my office days,

when we were taking training for oracle module. We werr very much focussed in learning the application that the trainer even warned us that we will get the screen in our dream. It actually happens with many of our collegues that they dreamt of the oracle screen in their dream. Exposing too much on certain things definitely works adversely.

Dreams are the reflections of our subconscious mind. A sleep disruption due to social media result in broken dreams, which ultimately affects internal compass, making it harder to stay focused on our life goals and aspirations. Quality sleep is crucial for maintaining mental and physical health. Without sufficient rest, our ability to dream gets compromised. A sleep deprivation can lead us to a host of health issues, including

  • decreased immune function,
  • higher risk of cardiovascular disease,
  • impaired cognitive performance.

Social media, while a powerful tool for connection and information, can also be a source of anxiety and sleep disturbances. It is important for us not to be carried away with social media and focus on real life goals. Taking proper sleep allows the body to function properly a deprived sleep may result in poorer health. We must take a note of it and try to maintain proper distance from getting influenced.

Do not let social media to get into the intoxicated state of mind, rather focus more on our goals and aspirations in life. Sleep well , Live well.

Peace!!
