Dhammapada (Filipino) - verse 2

Dhammapada verse 2

from Chapter 1 (Twinned Verses)

Mind precedes created things,
Mind’s their chief, from mind they spring.
Who speaks or acts with purified mind,
Joy trails that man, like his shadow, behind.

Filipino (Tagalog) translation

Ang isip ay nangunguna sa nilikhang mga bagay;
Ang isip ang kanilang pinuno, mula sa isip sila sumisibol.
Sinuman ang nagsasalita o kumikilos nang may malinis na isip,
Kagalakan ay sumusunod sa taong iyon, katulad ng kanyang anino, sa likod.

Notes

  • The word "Who" has the literal Filipino translation to "sino". However, to better preserve the idea of the original text on the translation, the Filipino word "sinuman" (meaning "whoever") has been used instead.
  • The first two lines of the original verse text (and its subsequent Filipino translation) are the same as that on the previous verse (verse 1) as published here.
  • Translations are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate.

Feel free to comment on this post your thoughts regarding the verse itself or its translation.
