Chicago's Union Station

Have you ever taken a long train trip? Would traveling by train fit your style of traveling? Do you travel often by train, or are you like me and train trips are rare and memorable?

Chicago's Union Station was built in 1925 and today is owned by Amtrack and is the hub for Midwestern trains and for trains serving the west.

This is the start for many grand rail adventures to tour the USA.

Amtrack offers many tour packages. You can board the California Zephyr for a trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. There are two week long package trips to see 5 of America's national parks on the Empire Builder. You can book a trip for an autumn tour of New England. So many tour package possibilities start right here.

I'm more of a back roads sort of traveler, wanting the freedom to stop and enjoy whatever sights and events I come across, but the idea of touring by train is appealing.

Is traveling across the US by rail your idea of a dream vacation?
