Conmemorando el día de la mujer con el arte de las mujeres: La Mirada Femenina
Hello, Ladies. As we all know, yesterday was International Women's Day. It's a commemoration, not a celebration, but that's a concept we are trying to make people understand while still dealing with it happening. "Happy Women's Day" is a common greeting this day, and it doesn't come from an ironic place; it's just that people for years have considered it a day to recognize the value of women in family and society.
Hola, Ladies. Como todos sabemos, ayer fue el Día Internacional de la Mujer. Se trata de una conmemoración, no de una celebración, pero es un concepto que intentamos que la gente entienda mientras sigue ocurriendo. "Feliz Día de la Mujer" es un saludo común este día, y no viene de un lugar irónico; es sólo que la gente durante años lo ha considerado un día para reconocer el valor de la mujer en la familia y la sociedad.
I spent March 8th at an event in the Rafael Monasterios Gallery of my university (UCLA, not the one in the USA, hahaha), where the exhibition "Miradas Femeninas" took place. All female artists sent their artwork to share their view of the world, from young artists to already established artists.
Pasé el 8 de marzo en un evento en la Galería Rafael Monasterios de mi universidad (UCLA, no la de EEUU, jajaja), donde tuvo lugar la exposición "Miradas Femeninas". Todas las mujeres artistas enviaron sus obras para compartir su visión del mundo, desde jóvenes artistas hasta artistas ya consagradas.
In the beginning, it was kind of funny to me to see so many men on stage for the inauguration and the musical intro, but it is great to see men supporting women since the point is to share spaces equally and not push anyone away. During their speech, the university authorities recognized March 8th as a commemorational date, and these men tried their best not to say something like "women are precious, perfect creatures." I mean no bad saying this; it is hard to break with old customs.
Al principio, me hizo cierta gracia ver a tantos hombres en el escenario para la inauguración y la introducción musical, pero es estupendo ver a hombres apoyando a las mujeres, ya que de lo que se trata es de compartir espacios por igual y no apartar a nadie. Durante su discurso, las autoridades universitarias reconocieron el 8 de marzo como fecha conmemorativa, y estos hombres hicieron todo lo posible por no decir algo como "las mujeres son criaturas preciosas y perfectas". No digo esto con mala intención; es difícil romper con las viejas costumbres.
Now the art. There are so many artworks that I cannot give you my thoughts on all of them in one post, but I can tell you what I saw at the exhibition as a whole and my experience at the event. I have to start by saying that I was not participating as an artist; I was around taking photos with my phone, but I was asked several times which was mine hahaha. I was tempted to play along, but I didn't, because that would be identity theft 😂
Ahora el arte. Hay tantas obras de arte que no puedo daros mi opinión sobre todas ellas en un solo post, pero sí puedo contaros lo que vi en la exposición en su conjunto y mi experiencia en el evento. Tengo que empezar diciendo que yo no participaba como artista; estaba por ahí haciendo fotos con mi teléfono, pero me preguntaron varias veces cuál era mi obra jajaja. Estuve tentada de seguirles el juego, pero no lo hice, porque eso sería usurpación de identidad 😂.
This exhibition was made by women, but not all are "about" women; what makes it feminine is that this is the world from the feminine point of view. And I think it shows. You can see the environments that are usually surrounding women and the things we tend to notice more. But that is if you look at all of them together. While seeing them individually, their quality and technique are just as great as their male counterparts. I mixed up the photos, so professionals and beginners are all over the place. You are free to evaluate, and you will be surprised.
Esta exposición está hecha por mujeres, pero no todo es "sobre" mujeres; lo que la hace femenina es que se trata del mundo desde el punto de vista femenino. Y creo que se nota. Se pueden ver los ambientes que suelen rodear a las mujeres y las cosas en las que tendemos a fijarnos más. Pero eso es si las ves todos juntas. Viéndolas individualmente, su calidad y su técnica son tan estupendas como las de sus homólogos masculinos. He mezclado las fotos, así que hay profesionales y principiantes por todas partes. Son libres de evaluar, y se sorprenderán.
There was a wholesome aura to the process. As I was taking the photos, some artists came up to me and talked about their creations. Especially Coromoto Rodríguez, she's the artist with me on the cover, and that is her piece "Arazaikera". It talks about a legend from her husband's people (he was indigenous): a tragedy took place when some visitors came to visit and their canoe sank; a violinist was playing while it happened; all of the people died, visitors and locals; and the story says you can hear the violin when passing by the point where this happened.
El proceso desprendía un aura agradable. Mientras hacía las fotos, algunas artistas se me acercaron y me hablaron de sus creaciones. Sobre todo Coromoto Rodríguez, que es la artista que está conmigo en la portada, y esa es su obra "Arazaikera". Habla de una leyenda del pueblo de su marido (él era indígena): ocurrió una tragedia cuando la canoa en la que venian visitantes se undió; un violinista estaba tocando mientras ocurría; murieron todas las personas, visitantes y lugareños; y la historia dice que se puede oír el violín cuando se pasa por el punto donde ocurrió.
I talked with her, took some photos (with her phone; she has them), and she loved them; she asked me if I was a photographer, which made me feel pretty good, haha, and suddenly a lot of people knew about those photos and talked to me about them, so I should find a good camera now.
Hablé con ella, le hice algunas fotos (con su teléfono; ella las tiene), y le encantaron; me preguntó si era fotógrafa, lo que me hizo sentir bastante bien, jaja, y de repente mucha gente conocía esas fotos y me hablaba de ellas, así que ahora debería buscarme una buena cámara.
One thing that makes me feel proud is that my friends were participating. Three of them are here in Hive, @patbenzp05 is the newest one here.
Una cosa que me hace sentir orgullosa es que mis amigas estaban participando. Tres de ellas estan están Hive. @patbenzp05 es la más nueva.
And that was my day yesterday, part of my day; also, this was just one of the events happening in my city. It was a pretty busy day, full of art, conversation, and learning. I'm glad my city is waking up again after the pandemic; it took a while, and a lot of people who were apart from the movements are coming back to them, including myself.

Y ese fue mi día de ayer, parte de mi día; además, este fue sólo uno de los eventos que tuvieron lugar en mi ciudad. Fue un día bastante ajetreado, lleno de arte, conversación y aprendizaje. Me alegro de que mi ciudad esté despertando de nuevo después de la pandemia; tardó un tiempo, y mucha gente que estaba apartada de los movimientos está volviendo a ellos, incluida yo misma.
