Good day, everyone! How’s your weekend going? This is @lorelei.cortes, a newbie and a Physical Therapist by profession. I love to read books and write just about anything. It’s always fun to share your viewpoints with other people. Allow me to share my thoughts on the question “What is your favorite thing about this time of the year?”

The “Ber” months have started two months ago and normally, everybody’s looking forward to the holiday season which is a perfect time for family and friends to be together. But with the imminent threat of the Covid 19 pandemic looming around, our enthusiasm for the much-awaited celebration has been replaced with hesitancy knowing fully well that what is ahead is uncertain and our country is on the brink of economic collapse.

Despite that, we manage to handle our struggles well. Filipinos are known to be very resilient and so far, we have lived up to that expectation. I for one am not an exception. Although it is very difficult to make plans right now, the holiday spirit has started to get into my nerves and there are already lots and lots of things on my mind on what I am going to do for weeks to come. You see, I have been separated from my husband and kids for almost two years now and you could imagine my overwhelming desire to be with them even just for a day or two.

Since we cannot afford to keep our guards down due to Covid, I have to consider my safety as well as my family’s in what to do next. This is the time of the year when we make the preparations for Christmas so we have to make sure everything will be fine. But perhaps, it would be a great idea if our social bubble goes an extra mile or two. The pandemic has taught us a lot of things such as taking care of ourselves and others. We need to be safe for others to be safe too. Not to mention to be kinder and more generous. That is what civilization is really about in the first place.

The pandemic will never stop us from celebrating the joy of the Christmas season. Our plans are geared towards it. Nevertheless, the way we will celebrate the occasion might be out of the ordinary as we have changed our perspective in dealing with people and life because of Covid. So to put it all in a nutshell, the best thing about this time of the year would be the preparations for Christmas and looking forward with positivity to another year.
