Introduction

As a seasoned Splinterlands veteran, I've found myself drawn to summoners like Immortalis, who offer a reliable defense than offense. In fact, I'd argue that Immortalis is even superior to Earth Splinter's more popular choice, Obsidian, thanks to his Void ability to counter Obsidian's increased magic damage.

As someone who often advocates for a defensive playstyle, I highly recommend Immortalis to other players, particularly those who are having a hard time against opponent's focused magic damage.

Immortalis is the steadfast guardian of Earth Splinter. He stands as a good counter to aggressive magic-based strategies. For those who favor a more defensive approach like me, Immortalis is the ultimate tool for weathering any hardships against any magic-focused teams.

Immortalis is a really strong summoner. His Void ability is especially strong since it is granted to all of your monsters. That means that if any of your opponents that uses magic damage will be dealing half damage to all of your monsters for that battle.

Abilities:

-1 Health: [Stat Modifier] [Negative Status] All opponent monsters has their Max Health reduced by 1, with a minimum of 1. Monsters with 1 Max Health before the effect applies are unaffected.

Void.png

Void: [Defense] Monsters with Void ability reduces the incoming magic damage by half. If the damage is 1, before the effect applies, the damage is negated and becomes 0.

Shatter.png

Shatter: [Damage] Remove excess armor after this monster hits the opponent.

Pros

  1. Anti-Obsidian Counter, Using Immortalis directly counters any magic damage-related build. This mostly affect another and more popular Earth Splinter pick, Obsidian, whose abilities increases their team's damage by 1.
  2. Easy to Use. Unlike other summoners like Possibilus the Wise's Trample ability that only works on melee monsters, Immortalis's abilities works on anyone.
  3. Few Mirror Matches. Immortalis isn't as famous as other summoners and you won't get as much mirror matches like if you use Tarsa or Obsidian as your summoner. With less mirror matches, there would also be less games where the winner is who flipped the coin better, aka based on luck.

Cons

  1. Can be countered by Summoner Cryptic.
Cryptic has a unique ability called Expose that he can give to two other monsters. Monsters granted with this ability can remove defensive abilities like Void ability before applying the damage for the attack.
  2. Shatter ability is not as strong as Rust.
Shatter ability requires a few intricacies to apply. First, they need to hit the monsters first. Once they hit, if it's a melee or range damage, the damage will subtract to the armor first before applying Shatter removing all the excess armor. This means that if the armor is low and that attack is enough to remove the armor, then the Shatter ability basically do not have any effect on that attack.
  3. Immortalis is a legendary summoner.
Legendary summoners can sometimes be a disadvantage since there are rules of combats that disables its use. It's a very rare occurrence but it's still a disadvantage.

Wands Out
During this battle, only monsters with magic damage type are allowed: Just like I said, if any of your opponents uses magic damage, that monster will basically inflict only half its damage this whole battle since all of your monsters have Void ability that halves all magic damage. Now, what do you think would happen on a rule of combat that only allows magic damage when you have Immortalis as your summoner?

Armored Up
All monsters gain +2 armor for this battle: If your opponents decided to abuse Armored Up rule of combat and stack up on armor, Shatter ability can help you a lot by removing those excess armor when your monsters hit.

Keep Your Distance
Monsters with Melee damage type cannot be used during this battle.: Since your opponents cannot use melee monsters, you now have a 50% chance of facing magic damage in your opponent's picks, this gives you a higher chance of countering your opponent's magic damage builds.

Monsters
Description

Mycelic Infantry.png
Mycelic Infantry
Mycelic Infantry is a good compatible monster because of his Shield ability. This strategy mimics the idea of Chain Golem's Shield and Void abilities halving all damage from your opponents.
2.png
Mycelic Slipspawn.png
Mycelic Slipspawn
With both Taunt and Void abilities, this mimics the monster I wish I could have called, "Iziar", a Life Splinter monster with Magic Damage, Shield and Void abilities. You can put Mycelic Slipspawn at the back with Triage monster to keep your team safe.
3.png
Grund.png
Grund
Grund's Double Strike ability complements a lot with Shatter. He attacks first, removing all and excess armor with Shatter making your second attack reach they opponent's health. His high health can also make him a tank with Immortalis's Void ability.

This team composition is very reliable with Immortalis. I have a tank that acts like Chain Golem reducing all damage which is supported by Goblin Psychic's Tank Heal. On the back, I have a Taunt unit, Mycelic Slipspawn supported by two Triage abilities, Queen Mycelia and Spirit Hoarder.

Lineup

Immortalis.png
Immortalis

A good balance of defense and offense abilities granted to your team. He also gives the opponent's team a reduced max health reducing the health restoration from Heal, Tank Heal and Triage.

Mycelic Infantry.png
Mycelic Infantry

This is my main tank for this battle. His Shield and Void ability is good in protecting my back line.

Goblin Psychic.png
Goblin Psychic

Goblin Psychic's Tank Heal ability to restore any damage from Mycelic Infantry.

Spirit Hoarder.png
Spirit Hoarder

I needed him because of the Triage ability to support Mycelic Slipspawn at the back.

Queen Mycelia.png
Queen Mycelia

Another Triage monster but she also has Protect ability for that extra layer of protection.

Lurking Puffer.jpg
Lurking Puffer

I have 2 extra mana so I added someone with high health. I placed him here in case opponents used Blast ability which may prove problematic in my build.

Mycelic Slipspawn.png
Mycelic Slipspawn

My second layer of defense. With Mycelic Slipspawn's high health and Taunt ability, Immortalis's Void ability, Queen Mycelia and Spirit Hoarder's Triage, this would be a good defense against a variety of attack and damage.

Both me and my opponent countered each other on this battle. His Thaddius Brood hit the mark by reducing my magic damage but since he used magic damage as well, my Immortalis's Void armor negated a huge chunk of his damage as well.

Author's Note Banner.gif

Immortalis is a really good summoner. I would even say as far that Immortalis is better than Obsidian because Immortalis's Void ability directly counter's Obsidian's increased magic damage always. I always like a defensive playstyle if possible so summoners like Immortalis are the ones I suggest a lot to other players. Not only you cannot go wrong with him but you can also freely choose your build and not focus on one damage type or strategy which can either make it or break it depending on your opponent's choices. The more variant you have in your strategy, the harder it is to be countered by your opponent.
