My Personal Experience with Changing Social Life and Women | #104

The "new lady" was a topic of discussion all across the world in the 19th and 20th centuries. The group most affected by the abrupt change was women. Although the change was significant overall, it was particularly noticeable in women's lives.

Nevertheless, not just women are impacted by today's drastic advances, which include new reproductive methods, genetic therapies, digital prosthetics, and artificial intelligence. Men and women alike are impacted by it. Humanity faces threats to the survival of the species beyond gender at a time when the limits of the human being are being explored.

The issue of a "new person" that transcends gender is one we must deal with. However, there are also ongoing social, political, economic, cultural, and technical forces that alter and transform the place of gender and sexuality in human life.

On the one hand, the traditional "women's problem" persists; approaches are articulated that reject the heterosexual concept of gender, link women's oppression to the reproduction of discourse rather than socioeconomic institutions, and embrace gender as a purely cultural fabrication.

We all know how the discourse on the "housewife and the mother" began, progressed through the times when the "housewife and the mother" were exalted, and finally changed from the discourse on equality to the discourse on emancipation.

The first thing I want to stress is this.

The second issue I want to draw attention to is the fact that we constantly discuss women. In actuality, we face difficulties that are multifaceted and multidimensional.

If we see the family as a whole...

  • Families that prioritize their kids,
  • Faster to get a divorce

Marriage was once thought of as an economic and political institution that could not be entrusted to the ephemeral feelings of individuals, that is, to such a slippery ground. However, marriage patterns have changed, as evidenced by the fact that love has now replaced other factors as the only justification for union.

  • the rise in single-parent households, which are typically made up of a mother and child;
  • the rising number of women and men who choose to remain single, etc.

We deal with complex issues, even inside our own families. But we are currently discussing women as we sit. Why?

In fact, both the structure of the family and the interaction between the sexes are undergoing significant change. Not only are women the only ones affected by these developments, but they are the only ones to blame. However, it is common practise to identify these alterations mostly in women.

It is true that "women have changed, everything has changed," as the saying goes. Every day, we see facile and condemnatory claims like "Women started working, family broke down, children were sad."

However, it is not a method that provides the complete picture. Because of this, I think it's important to consider how women's lives are changing in the context of a larger cycle of change.

I call on @mammasitta to say her views about how things have changed during past ages for her. Here is the link to contest: @ladiesofhive/ladies-of-hive-community-contest-104
