Yesterday morning I spent some of my time while waiting for the sun to come out prepping the window for the A/C unit. We had to get a new one to replace our ancient very inefficient one that we have managed to limp through the summers.
Being bigger it takes up pretty much the entire window and this one has an outer sleeve that mounts in the window then the unit slides in from the inside.
Not having a window sill on the outside I had to install a 2x4 to mount the support brackets to.
I had marked the hole tracks with the sleeve placed in the window then installed the supports. The unit is 220 voltage which means I need to pull a wire that is run to the outside that is an open 220 line and reroute it down into the room where I will install a plug for it on the wall. This unit will save us a lot on power costs compared to the old pair of 120 volt units we have been using.
In the garden I went to start moving the irrigation lines but spent a bit fishing for metal with the magnets. I found a couple hands full of nails and tossed them all in the bucket.
The irrigation lines got moved into the tilled area but I found that I needed to move the rocks that I had piled as they encroached on the end row a bit too much.
I opened the fence up and then tossed and carried the rocks over by the tree and piled them there. The buckets got tilted on their edges and rolled to sit by the tree. Far easier than sliding or trying to carry them, just treat em like the grain barrels and roll them around.
I kept out the flatter rocks to use on the plastic and I hauled over a bunch of rocks that I had in a big pot to get them out of the way.
The pile didn't make it to the big pile but it is out of my way for when I need to drive decking to the studio.
R was helping me to move rocks and was carrying a couple medium sized at a time.
Once all the rocks were moved I tilled the area where they had been sitting again as it had gotten pretty compacted.
I also tilled the bottom end of the rows to level it out and make the walkway.
As I laid the irrigation lines out some still had a bit of water in them. This is why I use pressure compensating drip emitters, they are able to handle the high iron water that we have. The emitters are self cleaning and rarely get clogged. I can't really filter the iron out so have to use parts than can handle it.
I got all the lines laid out across the garden, all 27 of them. They get laid out in general spacing with the ends still open.
After picking J up from school I set about pulling out the plastic. It is not pretty but it is still effective after a number of years of reuse. This piece is the easiest of them to get set with the irrigation in the correct rows.
The pieces to the north go in nearly as easily.
The harder part is the south end which took me some time to get the pieces in the correct places. I have to take up a row in the plastic to make it fit but I got the end 6 rows in line. I need to get the last 4 or 5 pieces in place today then I am ready to start getting seeds in the ground.
Drove up to the grange but no scouts so we headed home and I got the trailer hooked up to the truck for the grain run this morning.
It was sale day at Bifbeans so I got my order in and was able to pay with Hive. New genetics is really nice to have.
I have been to town this morning for grain, dropped J off at school, I get my new shoes today, need to get the plastic on the garden, empty the grain barrels, enlarge the pen for the chicks, and try to organize in my tool shed.
