Limited Government Hypocrisy

One of the conservatives' core ideologies is that of "limited government". This follows logically from their blind and unjustified confidence in the efficacy of free markets and capitalism. As Reagan said: government is not the solution, government is the problem. Well, that's a lie, and they know it.

However, if we dig deeper into this claim by conservatives that they want "smaller government", we can see the hypocrisy in it; they're not for limited government at all. And the ones that truly do want to limit government as much as possible, to the point that they want to eradicate it, are called anarcho-capitalists, which is a genuine contradiction in terms and shouldn't solicit anyone's serious attention. Regular conservatives' wish for limited government is specifically targeted on those portions of government that are instituted to help people; that's what they're against. That's things like social welfare programs, food stamps and socialized healthcare. That's the "big government" they're so fervently opposing.

Conservatives do not believe in limited government and I don't care how often or how loud they scream they do. They overwhelmingly vote for expansion of the military and police forces, including the militarization of the police. That's BIG, not small government. They also give massive tax breaks and subsidies to multinationals. Reducing taxes, especially for big corporations and billionaires, is not reducing the size of government, it's just increasing the wealth and power for the already wealthy. Nah, the small government conservatives have in mind is the government that helps the poor and vulnerable; whenever a policy threatens to actually help poor and working class people they scream "Big Government!!" while clutching their pearls...

And when they do agree to give a small measure of financial assistance to common folks, they reject any and all universal measures. Of course not. Instead they insist on "means testing", on making sure individuals are actually poor enough to qualify for any kind of social welfare. And that's making government BIG, not small. Universal healthcare programs or a universal basic income would just go out and help everybody, with the welcome side-effect of partially erasing the difference between rich and poor; if the poorest and the richest citizens receive exactly the same healthcare, it makes both groups feel part of the same united people. But no, conservatives are allergic to any kind of unity and have nightmares about having to share anything with the poor and working class. So they want means testing which creates a monstrous administration apparatus. Big Government is what they want. Watch the video for more examples about why the conservatives' wish for limited government is yet another one of their many lies...
