Evangelical Hypocrisy

What's with this alliance between evangelicals and Trump? Even at a cursory glance it should become clear to anyone that these two should be diametrically opposed to each other; Trump and his supporters glorify strength and violence, while Christianity teaches love and forgiveness. Trump, right wing politics in general and Republicans all despise weakness whereas Christianity is all about helping the weak and vulnerable. Why then are evangelicals and other Christian denominations so married to the Republican party and why are evangelicals so devout in their support for the worst president in American history?

Okay, it's a lot easier to understand evangelicals' support for Republicans, mainly because of the party's stance on abortion rights (they're strictly "pro life" when it comes to the unborn and fervently anti-choice when it comes to expecting women), but also as a consequence of Republicans' anti LGBTQ tendencies and policies. A man is a man, a woman is a woman and women's main responsibility in life is to give birth (and stand by their men...). That's a bit sharply put, this gross generalization, but I believe anyone can understand what I mean there. It becomes a lot harder though, to fathom evangelicals' undying support for Trump. It's so obvious that Trump knows nothing about the Bible, and that his rhetoric is geared toward upholding the false impression that he does. We all know what a liar Trump is, even his supporters know this, so the evangelicals also know this as well, you would think. Still these conservative Christians are some of the most loyal supporters of the casino owner who's cheated on three wives. One of the interviewed women in the first video deludes herself by saying, "how can you build that kind of empire if you're not praying to God for good things every day"... Unbelievable. By that standard every man that's ever built an empire in history is and was a devout Christian...

The Divinity of Donald Trump: The Daily Show

Evangelicals are either the single most deluded or the most hypocritical demographic that has thrown their support behind Trump; I can't quite make up which, going by the interview of pastor Mark Burns in the Comedy Central video. When pressured by Jordan Kepper he sure loses much of his confidence though. Isn't it obvious that Trump hasn't a pious bone in his body? And that he's busy building a religion all of his own, with himself as the highest power? I just think it's odd that people who believe in the Bible support this man, or the Republicans for that matter. I sometimes feel that their "holier than thou" attitude of protecting the unborn child acts like a counterbalance for all the evil embedded in the rest of their ideology. But that's just a feeling; I can't look into anyone's mind. And neither can John Pavlovitz, the YouTuber who lists what he thinks are the 5 top reasons, "white supremacy" being one of them, why Christians wrongly support Donald Trump; I just feel that he might be on to something here... Just watch it, and see if you agree.
