American Stonehenge Mystery

I think we all know about Stonehenge; it's one of those ancient stone structures, this one located on a chalky plain north of the modern-day city of Salisbury, England, the purpose and origin of which are still shrouded in mystery. Who built them? How were these ancient humans able to lift these stones weighing 25 tons on average? And what was its purpose?

There are many stone mega-structures all over the globe like that, the most famous being the Great Pyramid of Giza, and although there's much unknown about them, one thing they almost all have in common: these structures are in alignment with celestial bodies on certain times and certain dates. And most of them are constructed with megaliths and were able to endure for tens of thousands of years.

Everyone knows Stonehenge, but do you know that there's a Stonehenge-like megalithic construction in America as well? It's nicknamed "American Stonehenge", but it's officially called the Georgia Guidestones, a monument built from massive granite slabs with a set 10 guidelines inscribed in eighty modern languages on each side of the 4 largest slabs. And although we know who actually built this monument, it is unknown who ordered its construction and what its real purpose is, much like those ancient ones, although the Georgia Guidestones were built in 1979 and revealed on March 22, 1980. Here's some of the Wikipedia article to illustrate just how this monuments origin is shrouded in mystery:

In June 1979, a man using the pseudonym Robert C. Christian approached the Elberton Granite Finishing Company on behalf of "a small group of loyal Americans", and commissioned the structure. Christian explained that the stones would function as a compass, calendar, and clock, and should be capable of withstanding catastrophic events. Joe Fendley of Elberton Granite assumed that Christian was "a nut" and attempted to discourage him by giving a quote several times higher than any project the company had taken, explaining that the guidestones would require additional tools and consultants. Christian accepted the quote. When arranging payment, Christian explained that he represented a group which had been planning the guidestones for 20 years, and which intended to remain anonymous.

Two facts about the mysterious "loyal Americans" behind this project jump out immediately: 1) money was clearly not an issue, and 2) they've been planning this since 1960 at the very least. The pseudonym chosen by the man who made the deal, R.C. Christian, is interesting as well. But what's mos interesting is the list of 10 guidelines for humanity inscribed on this monument that's clearly intended to last through the ages. My mind wandered to these guidestones because of the current pandemic and the first guideline which says: "Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in balance with nature."

These Georgia Guidestones have been at the center of many a conspiracy theory of course. How could the not be? They got "New World Order" written all over them. Quite literally when the stones got vandalized in 2008 and activists spray-painted "Death to the new world order" on them, among other things. Conspiracy theorists offer various explanations, none of which we should rule out in advance just because they're called conspiracy theories. One of them is that the guidestones are of "a deep Satanic origin", and that R. C. Christian belongs to "a Luciferian secret society" related to the "New World Order". Alex Jones's film Endgame: Blueprint for Global Enslavement proposes that the guidestones are a harbinger of self-appointed elites who intend on exterminating most of the world's population. The second guideline on the stones says: "Guide reproduction wisely — improving fitness and diversity." Is that an indication that the stones' commissioners support eugenics and other means of far reaching birth control?

The most widely accepted, non conspiratorial explanation is that the guidelines are to provide rules and ethics to a post-apocalyptic humanity. The stones were built during the height of the Cold War, and apparently being planned throughout most of that war, a time when humanity lived under constant fear of Mutually Assured Destruction if east and west went to war with each other. But even then it must be said that the small group of rich, calculating "loyal Americans" behind the stones fancy themselves rather important, right up there with the Pharaohs who ordered the construction of the pyramids.
