Cuando era niño pasaba los días sin internet y sin tv por cable, solo quedaba ver televisión nacional y como todo domingo era el día especial en dónde la programación se basaba en transmitir películas vaqueras en la mañana, películas divertidas y populares en la tarde, el estreno en el prime time y después cerrar con algún clásico del cine; por este tipo de programación vi una gran cantidad de películas, muchas en dónde me sentaba al frente de la tv con mis padres y para mí siempre era algo especial en pasar cada domingo de descanso junto a ellos viendo alguna que otra película y justamente dos de esas películas eran: "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" y "The Godfather", ambas películas son especiales, son historias que perduran con el tiempo, son irrepetibles y por eso son las que decidí de escribir por lo importante e influyentes que son para muchos cineastas, guionistas y claro para todo amante del mundo del cine.

When I was a child I spent the days without internet and without cable TV, the only thing left to watch was national television and as every Sunday was the special day where the programming was based on broadcasting cowboy movies in the morning, fun and popular movies in the afternoon, the premiere in prime time and then close with a classic film; for this type of programming I saw a lot of movies, many where I sat in front of the TV with my parents and for me it was always something special to spend every Sunday off with them watching some movie and just two of those movies were: "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and "The Godfather", both movies are special, they are stories that last over time, they are unrepeatable and that is why I decided to write about them because of how important and influential they are for many filmmakers, screenwriters and of course for all lovers of the world of cinema.

Comenzaré hablando sobre mis impresiones de la película más antigua entre las dos; está opinión no es basada sobre la primera vez que vi este film, sino una sobre el momento que la volví a ver mucho tiempo después y que en esta oportunidad era la versión extendida con una duración de más de tres horas; "El Bueno, el Malo y el Feo" es un impresionante film, es una de las historias más completas que he visto en mi vida porque me gusta el ver a estos tres personajes relacionarse forjar una extraña amistad que es puesta a prueba por una gran cantidad de dinero que cambiará sus vidas. Este film une comedia, acción, drama, tensión todo desde el viaje de tres personajes en busca de oro, pero hay algo que resalta y le da una gran importancia a toda la película esa es la música realizada por el gran Ennio Morricone; el tema "The Ecstasy of Gold" es una obra de arte y el uso dado por el director Sergio Leone es impresionante, en especial en esa gran escena del duelo en el cementerio la cual es una de mis favoritas de las muchas que he visto en mi vida; cada una de las tomas a los protagonistas, a sus ojos mientras suenan las notas de esta gran tema le da tanta emoción que hace la tensión aumente hasta que llega la resolución final. No tengo duda de si existe una explicación sobre lo que es un "Spaghetti Western", seguramente este film debe estar obligatoriamente ligado a eso y no solo la forma de dirigir y la historia, sino los actores envueltos en este proyecto interpretaron a personajes inolvidables, Clint Eastwood como "Blondie" tal vez sea el primer antihéroe que conocí, su actitud silenciosa, peligroso dispuesto a ayudar, pero sin arriesgar mucho, creo que eso es lo que demuestra lo que es este personaje, todo lo contrario es Eli Wallach como "El Tuco", alguien que para nada es silencioso, es cobarde, tirador, despiadado, siempre aprovecha cualquiera situación en dónde sea beneficiado, de verdad que es alguien que nunca nadie debería encontrarse jamás, es malo, pero no tanto como "Angel Eyes" interpretado por nada más y nada menos que Lee Van Cleef, si hay alguien despiadado, cruel, malo y muy peligroso, este es un gran villano y es importante su introducción en esta historia cuando la de Blondie y Tuco ya se va desgastando mostrando el verdadero villano de la historia; gracias a cada uno de estos personajes, de la película que hizo Leone, de la música hecha por Morricone, por ser en especial un western es que este film es importante para el cine un clásico que me gusta ver con mi padre porque siempre cuenta que él tuvo la oportunidad de verla en el cine y de lo fascinado por todo lo que veía, por todo esto es que la considero un clásico.

I will start talking about my impressions of the older film between the two; this opinion is not based on the first time I saw this film, but one about the moment I saw it again much later and this time it was the extended version with a duration of more than three hours; "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is an impressive film, is one of the most complete stories I've seen in my life because I like to see these three characters relate forge a strange friendship that is tested by a large amount of money that will change their lives. This film unites comedy, action, drama, tension all from the journey of three characters in search of gold, but there is something that stands out and gives a great importance to the whole film that is the music made by the great Ennio Morricone; the theme "The Ecstasy of Gold" is a work of art and the use given by the director Sergio Leone is impressive, especially in that great scene of the duel in the cemetery which is one of my favorites of the many I've seen in my life; each of the shots to the protagonists, to their eyes while the notes of this great theme sound gives so much emotion that makes the tension increases until the final resolution arrives. I have no doubt that if there is an explanation of what a "Spaghetti Western" is, surely this film must be linked to that and not only the way of directing and the story, but the actors involved in this project played unforgettable characters, Clint Eastwood as "Blondie" may be the first anti-hero I met, his silent attitude, dangerous, willing to help, but without risking much, I think that's what shows what this character is, quite the opposite is Eli Wallach as "El Tuco", someone who is not silent at all, he is a coward, shooter, ruthless, always takes advantage of any situation where he is benefited, he is really someone that no one should ever meet, he is bad, but not as bad as "Angel Eyes" played by none other than Lee Van Cleef, if there is someone ruthless, cruel, evil and very dangerous, this is a great villain and it is important his introduction in this story when Blondie and Tuco's story is already wearing out showing the real villain of the story; thanks to each of these characters, of the film that made Leone, of the music made by Morricone, for being especially a western is that this film is important for the cinema a classic that I like to see with my father because he always says that he had the opportunity to see it in the cinema and how fascinated by everything he saw, for all this is that I consider it a classic.

El segundo clásico es otra de mis películas favoritas; antes me gustaba ver "El Padrino" por ese último acto del film en dónde "Michael Corleone" toma control de todas las familias enemigas, pero mucho tiempo después aprendí a apreciar justamente el camino que tiene el hijo menor de "Don Vito Corleone" hasta ser la cabeza de la familia, creo que la historia de este personaje es de lo mejor que he visto y es algo que fascina porque si hay algo que me guste de ver en muchas películas es como varias historias usan como base "El Viaje del Héroe" para desarrollar a un personaje principal, por ejemplo "El Señor de los Anillos", "Star Wars" y hasta la misma "The Matrix", en cada una de estas historias vemos como una persona pasa de ser alguien regular a un verdadero héroe, en El Padrino vemos que es lo contrario o tal vez vemos el camino errado que transita un héroe porque recordemos que Michael es un héroe de guerra y que por todo lo que su familia debe sufrir, él es el único con lo necesario para tomar control de su familia y de las demás. Este film dirigido por Francis Ford Coppola y co-escrito entre Mario Puzo y el mismo Coppola es una gran historia, en sí es un excelente drama familiar dentro de un ámbito criminal transmitiendo valores correctos e incorrectos, algunos muy apegados a la época y es eso lo que al final hacen que un hombre impensado de un paso adelante para encargarse del negocio familiar, esto es lo que más me gusta de esta película, el cambio que sufre Michael, la pérdida del alma, de la bondad para al final ser alguien el cual su padre nunca quiso que se convirtiera y es que si hacemos una comparativa entre el Michael en las escenas de la boda al comienzo del film y su regreso a USA de su estadía en Sicilia veremos qué son dos hombres diferentes, por supuesto que todo esto es por la gran actuación de Al Pacino quien hace un gran papel no solo en este film, sino en las otras dos películas dentro de esta franquicia; este clásico del cine es otro el cual cuando tengo la oportunidad la vuelvo a ver y justamente en su aniversario número 50 ha vuelto a las salas de cine y aunque parece que lamentablemente en los cines venezolanos no será proyectada. Coppola y Puzo crearon una historia pausada, pero muy emocionante por el desarrollo de cada uno de los personajes que nos muestra el mundo criminal y de cómo lo pueden vivir personas con un diferente punto de vista, sean violentos, pasionales, desesperados o calmados, calculadores y despiadados; para ser sincero todo este mundo que nos muestra está historia es algo icónico que será copiado o homenajeado por siempre.

The second classic is another of my favorite movies; before I liked to watch "The Godfather" because of that last act of the film where "Michael Corleone" takes control of all the enemy families, but much later I learned to appreciate the path that the youngest son of "Don Vito Corleone" has until he becomes the head of the family, I think the story of this character is one of the best I've seen and is something that fascinates because if there is something that I like to see in many movies is how several stories use as a base "The Hero's Journey" to develop a main character, for example "The Lord of the Rings", "Star Wars" and even "The Matrix" itself, in each of these stories we see how a person goes from being someone regular to a true hero, in The Godfather we see that it is the opposite or maybe we see the wrong path that a hero walks because let's remember that Michael is a war hero and for all that his family must suffer, he is the only one with what it takes to take control of his family and the others. This film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and co-written between Mario Puzo and Coppola himself is a great story, in itself is an excellent family drama within a criminal environment transmitting right and wrong values, some very attached to the time and that is what in the end make an unthinkable man step forward to take over the family business, this is what I like most about this film, the change that Michael suffers, the loss of the soul, of the goodness to finally be someone that his father never wanted him to become and if we make a comparison between the Michael in the wedding scenes at the beginning of the film and his return to USA from his stay in Sicily we will see that they are two different men, of course all this is because of the great performance of Al Pacino who plays a great role not only in this film, but in the other two films in this franchise; this classic film is another one that when I have the opportunity I see it again and precisely on its 50th anniversary it has returned to theaters and although it seems that unfortunately in Venezuelan theaters it will not be screened. Coppola and Puzo created a slow story, but very exciting for the development of each of the characters that shows us the criminal world and how people can live it with a different point of view, whether violent, passionate, desperate or calm, calculating and ruthless; to be honest all this world that shows us this story is something iconic that will be copied and honored forever.

Con ambas películas descubrí que no todo es blanco o negro en el mundo del cine, que en momentos es correcto tener una mezcla de ambos para poder admirar a ciertos personajes interpretados por excelentes actores de los cuales son dirigidos y escritos por leyendas del cine; cuando admiras a personajes que "el bien" que hacen está dictaminado por el poder del dinero o que hacen lo que sea para proteger a su familia aprendes de que en el mundo existe un gran número de posibilidades y eso es lo mejor de estas películas, ya que te enseñan de que no todo debe ser lo habitual, sino que existe la posibilidad de que hay vía diferentes de interpretar a una historia o un personaje principal y justamente eso influencia de forma directa o no a varias películas en la actualidad, es por eso que estos films son clásicos, son icónicos, desde el modo de dirigir, de escribir un guion para desarrollar a uno o varios personajes, la importancia del uso de la música que se vuelve un emblema no solo para el film sino para todo lo que rodea está historia, de la visión o actitud de su protagonista, no tengo duda de que ambos films de los cuales me refiero en esta publicación perduran en el tiempo por todo lo que representan.

With both films I discovered that not everything is black and white in the world of cinema, that at times it is right to have a mix of both in order to admire certain characters played by excellent actors who are directed and written by film legends; when you admire characters that "the good" they do is dictated by the power of money or that do whatever it takes to protect their family you learn that in the world there are a great number of possibilities and that is the best thing about these films, since they teach you that not everything has to be the usual, but that there is the possibility that there are different ways to interpret a story or a main character and precisely that influences directly or not several films nowadays, That is why these films are classics, they are iconic, from the way of directing, writing a script to develop one or more characters, the importance of the use of music that becomes an emblem not only for the film but for everything that surrounds this story, the vision or attitude of its protagonist, I have no doubt that both films of which I refer in this publication endure in time for everything they represent.
