Kueh Chap

Good morning from Miri.

Throwing away food is like stealing from the table of those who are poor and hungry. Pope Francis

We must never throw good edible items away. Look at Kueh Chap for example. Put together some bones and cast outs.....

Kueh Chap is a popular dish made from rice sheets. The soup is made from all the "unwanted parts" or offals. This is a very versatile street food or kopitiam food.

The rice sheets can be served separately with hard boiled eggs, meat in their individual plates. The offals will be in the soup which is made up of good pork bone stock, spiced by cinnamon, star anise seed and soy sauce and perhaps a secret ingredient or two.) Kueh chap is available in some places 24/7, and in Penang, Johore, Kuala Lumpur, and Sarawak. It is also found in Thailand and in Indonesia.

The dish is usually served as a good and hearty breakfast in Miri. Prices can range from RM 6 to 12 depending on the way the stall owners. Extras (e.g. salted vegetables) are priced differently.
