Esta magnífico construcción, ubicada a orillas del Río Manzanares, data del año 1945, su inauguración fue el 19 de marzo, durante el periodo presidencial de Isaías Medina Angarita, originalmente el mercado se encontraba ubicado en lo que ahora conocemos como "el mini terminal", allí aún se puede apreciar parte de la infraestructura original, la cual con el crecimiento de la ciudad, resultó ser insuficiente para albergar al gran volumen de consumidores que a diario acudían en busca los alimentos que requieren en sus hogares.
