The closure of land borders in Nigeria by the then former President of Nigeria, Mohammed Buhari in 2019 has been one of the best decisions made by the former President that really has greater effects on home made productions most especially local made rice. The effect didn't only stop on the local made rice, but the effect was also felt that boosted the production of home made chicken.
What's Idi-Iroko land border?
Idi-Iroko was formerly a small village but due to its location in one of the Ogun state local government, it has developed to a Town(linking Nigeria-Benin republic) because of the purposes its serves for trading activities for exporting and importing goods.
Furthermore, the closure of the borders have also helped to create job and business opportunities within Nigeria populace.
What is the fate of home made chicken production since borders have been reopened?
Formerly, some of the chicken we consumed in Nigeria were reared outside Nigeria that were being imported into Nigeria through the means of land borders with Idi-Iroko as one of the major borders that these products were being imported into Nigeria. As soon as the decision was made to close these borders, that decision helped to increase the number of lives stock farmers which of course I have been one of the beneficiaries.
Currently, these borders have been reopened by currently President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, including the Idi-Iroko border. I have my sincere take on this, since these borders have been reopened there are certain foods and food stuffs that are going to be imported into Nigeria including livestock but I guess the home made frozen chicken is not one of the product that can be swept aside so easily. This is because the business has already gained ground and lot of people have flooded into the business which has helped to increase food security percent to an extent.
In conclusion, I can be rest assured that the home made chicken production has come to stay. This is because even a lot of top politicians are into the Poultry farm business and most of them wouldn't allow rules and regulations that draw back the development of their poultry farm business, so we the small scale and Entrepreneurs, the umbrella of these top politicians that are into the business should be able to cover us.
