Harvests, Trimming Tying, Cabbage, Freeze Dryer Batch 91 Started, Lettuce, Hike, Varmints, Grapes - Sunday

Yesterday morning I picked the first peppers to turn color. They are a pair of Anaheim and the others on the plants should start turning soon.

The cucumbers and tomatoes needed trimming and tying in the greenhouse.

After watching the US women basketball eek out the gold medal I headed out to work on the cabbage. I hacked down a bunch of plants and took some pretty small heads due to the amount of bugs.

They all look nice and went to the cooler.

Then I had to pull weeds and any of the trashed plants which all went to the sheep pen.

The freeze dryer had a new firmware available so I got it updated then changed the oil in the vacuum pump so we could get the next batch going.

The spots where the kale had been needed seeds put in the ground so I went with some lettuce to see if it will produce. It is a cold hardy variety so it should make it to October.

The beans had a nice 3.25 pounds ready for me.

@stryeyz and the boys spent the middle of the day processing potatoes into shreds and onto the trays.

5 loaded trays of hash brown shreds went into the freeze dryer and are in the process now.

Went looking for wasp nests again down by the creek but didn't see any, nor any crawdads in the water. Did find a game cam that was forgotten some years ago and is now mine.

Still looking at the trees I hiked up the hill. I climbed into the sheep pen and as I walked the fence line I found 3 coyote paths under the fence then the den that they opened back up.

I piled rocks in the gaps and then on top of the den. I think I have a use for the game cam...

Stupid smokey air, one of the "joys" of west coast summers.

IMG_20240811_151206.jpg

I was scouring the pen for any other coyote dens when I found this barrels buried in the brush that I have never seen before. It has been there the whole time but it just never stood out to me.

It's rather frustrating at times just how long it takes me to warm up at the board, while other days 3 visits and I am warmed up.

I had started it on Friday but needed to finish hacking back the grapes. They have oodles of tendrils growing all over the place that needed to be removed to give the grapes more of the growing energy.

Big piles of trimmings and the plants look a good bit better and lighter.

So far the grapes are coming along, I just hope the wasps don't decimate them.

The boys made dinner for us and made ginger snaps, which they need to clean up from this morning.

Today we return to our regularly scheduled programming, oh wait, that's everyday. Harvests first thing, I will be taking the traps up to the coyote trails and setting the cam up, I should wash my clothes, and finally deal with the patio mess.
