The Honey-flow begins!

Hey everyone we are in the beginning of what can only be described as our most epic honey season yet, but how do I know, you may ask?? The bees are extremely busy currently much more then last time this year, coupled with the fact they are much larger stronger swarms, we are also catching more feral swarms many more than last year, all indicators of an abundance of honey.

Our mistake this year was taking supers off during winter. We won't be doing that again. You lose out so much production if you super up late in the honey flow season as well as if you aren't storing supers in a deep freeze, bugs like ants, roaches, wax moths and more infest and wreak havoc in the dormant out of season frames especially with the wax combs. We have been doing this for around 6 years now and like everything in life still learn as we go.

About a week ago we supered these hives up, to collect honey as well as give the bees more space. Already they seem to be full to the brim of bees as they hang outside the hive in a bee like chain fashion. We will inspect for honey in about a week, this year is certainly different for whatever reason there certainly appears to be alot more nectar around?

This below is a newly moved in bee swarm, how exciting to catch new ones in season. This we will probably super up in about 3 weeks once they have built and established themselves. We will also need to be moving this hive as the access ontop of this bird cage roof is near impossible.

Zoomed out this is where it sits, not ideal at all.

Our last hive at the bottom of the plot, another massive swarm supered up and almost ready to harvest. Currently we have about 8 hives on this property and 4 next door which should easily render around 250 kgs of honey in 2 weeks time, WOW!
