Black Cat Myth in Nigeria: Separating Superstition from Reality

Default_Black_cat_2.jpg

A common myth I've heard especially from old people since I was young is that crossing paths with a black cat or seeing them in dreams brinks bad luck
Black cats have long been viewed as mysterious or superstitious by many. It has been believed to bring bad luck, possess supernatural powers and even portend witchcraft. As a result of these beliefs, many are in fear of black cats.

But I believe that superstition veils the truth about this innocent creature 😁.

Generations has grown to believe this superstition. Old people strongly hold on to the myth, a lot of people still believe it today, there have been tales and stories about it!
The mere sight of a black cat can even evoke fear and feelings of dread for those who believe the myth.

Debunking the myth

No matter how the belief of this myth is held, I still know it is not true. Black cat as well as other colors of cats are just the same, creatures by God. None of God's works are faulty!

Also there is no scientific evidence to support the claims of this myth. It is just mere superstition.
Black cats are not different from their other counterparts of colors. They are playful, loving and instinctively wise creatures deserving of compassion, love and respect.

I haven't seen anyone in Nigeria with a black cat as pet, probably because of the myth about it, but I have a friend from Venezuela who has a black cat as pet and she tells me just how lovely it is 😍πŸ₯°.

Since it is believed that black cats are often associated with witchcraft and dark magic, they are often mistreated, abandoned and even killed out of dread and ignorance. I believe this is great cruelty to animal!

Most people even change their plans or even not go anywhere when they feel they've crossed path with a black cat.

I think that superstition should be separated frim reality. We should show more love for this black cat and realize that is is also a normal animal just like the others. These unfounded beliefs can cause us harm, therefore it is important to recognize them and set ourselves free! It's important to create a more compassionate society for our dear black cats πŸˆπŸ’œ

Can you please see black cats as normal creatures? Can you show them love and compassion? Recognize their harmlessness, feed them! Love for animals is also important just as love for neighbors. Imagine how God feels when he sees that what he created is being view with utter disrespect, surely he won't feel good about it! We can do better ❀️
