Thoughtfulness

Source

I do remember it clearly like it was yesterday. I remember it every time before I speak on important issues. The exact words of my father on that early morning as we held our family daily devotion.

In his words, "Son, do not be too quick to judge even when you know what to say. Think it through and weigh the options. Try to understand the situation or person before you make your decision. That way you'll make more thoughtful decisions and they'll see you as a wise man"

Those words have stuck with me for as long as I can remember. I make sure to apply it in my daily dealings with humans. And it has made me understand how people function. It has made me care and appreciate people more. Offering better ideas and solutions in my dealings with humans.

It has also let me master the act of thoughtfulness.

To me, thoughtfulness goes beyond being just kind and polite. Yes, you read me correctly. Thoughtfulness is deeper than that.

It's understanding that your actions, words and choices might impact someone or change a situation or mood.

It's when you take time to not just listen to someone and try to understand him from his or her point of view.

It's about knowing when to speak and when not to speak. It's about thinking your words through before you speak.

It's about remembering the tiny details about a person. Making them know that they're loved.

It's about knowing when to put yourself first and also when to be selfless.

It's about being there for those people you love and care about.

There is a whole lot I can go about on being thoughtful.. but I believe thoughtfulness helps to nurture our relationships with others.

It is empathy in action.
