Today was a really strong day for everyone at home, and to tell you a little of how it was, I put it in context, some already know that my brother @fran-b, has a congenital condition, a hemangioma that although as a child did not represent any danger, as it was developing and reaching adulthood, was getting a little complicated, Although, let's say that this has not been something that matters much to him, he has practiced several sports, from soccer to cycling and mountain biking, sports that he stopped practicing because of his responsibilities and married life, but that he eventually practiced, especially cycling. My brother has always been the center of most of our worries, and these last few months he has been the biggest concern of everyone at home, because in mid-February he fainted after a little physical activity, which led us to take him to the cardiologist because he had very constant tachycardias.

After a series of medical studies and several doctors, they came to the conclusion that he had a severe cardiac arrhythmia, post COVID, because, although he has had arterial cardiovascular problems since he was very young, the arrhythmia has occurred after having gone through a couple of strains of the virus, and it seems that these last few months is the bread and butter for cardiologists. In view of the fact that there was no satisfactory response to the different medical treatments he was prescribed during the last few months, the cardiologist recommended him to undergo a medical procedure called Cardioversion, a procedure that to tell the truth terrified us, since the chances of a blood clot being pumped to the brain are quite high, according to the doctor's explanation.

After a couple of weeks of waiting, last night at 7:00 pm, the doctor called my brother to inform him that his cardioversion was scheduled for today at 7:00 am, and my brother had the supplies that the doctor had requested, because this procedure in which a defibrillator is used to give him an electric shock and thus, literally restart the heart, making the arrhythmia is eliminated and his heart rhythm is normal. Another complication, and this is specifically my brother's, was the possibility of a stroke due to a ruptured vein as a result of the high blood pressure he has in his veins, due to the previous treatment with anticoagulants that he had been taking. Obviously I was not going to leave my brother alone in this process, we fought like cats and dogs. all the time, but he is my little brother and I would be there for him, so today I have to get up early.

We left home at 5: We arrived there an hour later, thinking that we would have to wait a couple of hours for the doctor to arrive. To our surprise, the cardiologist was already there, and my brother was admitted almost immediately, my sister-in-law, a friend of my brother's and I were cold because of how quickly they took my little brother out of our sight, Then the doctor asked for a couple more supplies, so my brother's friend and I went out to buy them, and while we were in the pharmacy, my sister-in-law called me asking me to buy some medicine to wake my brother up from the anesthesia, since they had already performed the procedure, wow, it was kind of fast.

The doctor recorded the procedure on video, I must say that at first I did not want to see it, I felt it would be horrible to see my brother there receiving an electric shock, as if it were a heart attack, after a while I agreed to watch the video, and the truth is that they are quite strong images. He was sedated for 40 minutes, and he says he felt that he only closed and opened his eyes, thank God he was under anesthesia and did not feel the pain that could have generated such a procedure, which left some good bruises on his abdomen and chest, however, it was not all bad, he walked out of there, I hope to continue fighting with my brother for many years to come, of course, he still has to continue with a medical treatment and go for a check up in three weeks to see how he is reacting. Today again I can attest that the best way to live is from gratitude, and I am grateful because, although things have not been easy these last years, I have my brother there for me.

Hoy fue un día fuerte realmente para todos en casa, y para contarles un poco de cómo fue, los pongo en contexto, algunos ya saben que mi hermano @fran-b, tiene una condición congénita, un hemangioma que si bien cuando era niño no representaba ningún peligro, conforme se fue desarrollando y llegando a su edad adulta, fue complicándose un poco, trayendo consigo algunas limitaciones para su vida, aunque, digamos que esto no ha sido algo que le importe mucho a él, ha practicado varios deportes, desde el futbol hasta el ciclismo y la bicicleta de montaña, mismos deportes que dejo de practicar por las responsabilidades y la vida de casado, pero que eventualmente practicaba, sobre todo el ciclismo. Mi hermano siempre ha sido el centro de la mayoría de nuestras preocupaciones, y estos últimos meses ha sido la mayor preocupación de todos en casa, pues a mediados de febrero se desmayó luego de un poco de actividad física, lo que condujo a llevarlo al cardiólogo pues presentaba taquicardias muy constantes.

Luego de una serie de estudios médicos y varios médicos, llegaron a la conclusión de que presentaba una severa arritmia cardiaca, post COVID, ya que, aunque él ha tenido problemas artero cardiovasculares desde muy joven, la arritmia se ha presentado posterior a haber pasado por un par de cepas del virus, y que al parecer estos últimos meses es el pan de cada día para los cardiólogos. En vista de que no hubo respuesta satisfactoria a los diferentes tratamientos médicos que le recetaron los últimos meses, el cardiólogo le recomendó hacer un procedimiento medico llamado Cardioversion, un procedimiento que a decir verdad nos aterraba, pues las probabilidades de que un coagulo de sangre fuera bombeado al cerebro son bastante altas, según la explicación del médico.

Luego de un par de semanas de espera, anoche a las 7:00 pm, el medico llamo a mi hermano para informarle que estaba programada su cardioversión para hoy a las 7:00 am, ya mi hermano tenia los insumos que el médico le había solicitado, pues este procedimiento en el que se utiliza un desfibrilador, para darle una descarga eléctrica y de esta manera, reiniciar, literalmente, el corazón, haciendo que la arritmia se elimine y su ritmo cardiaco sea normal. Otra de las complicaciones, y esta si es, específicamente de mi hermano, era la posibilidad de un derrame producto de que alguna vena se rompiera producto de la alta presión sanguínea que posee en sus venas, debido al tratamiento previo con anticoagulantes que estuvo tomando. Obviamente yo no iba a dejar a mi hermano solo en este proceso, peleamos como perros y gatos all the time, pero es mi hermanito y allí estaría para él, así que hoy toco madrugar.

Salimos de casa a las 5:30 am, rumbo al hospital cardiológico ubicado en la ciudad de Maracay, llegamos allá una hora después, pensando que tendríamos que esperar un par de horas a que llegara el doctor, para nuestra sorpresa el cardiólogo ya estaba allí, haciendo pasar a mi hermano casi de manera inmediata, mi cuñada, un amigo de mi hermano y yo, quedamos fríos de lo rápido que nos quitaron de la vista a mi hermanito, paso seguido el medico nos solicitó un par de insumos más, por lo que salimos a comprarlos el amigo de mi hermano y yo, y estando en la farmacia, mi cuñada me llamo pidiendo que comprara un medicamento que era para despertar a mi hermano de la anestesia, puesto que ya le habían realizado el procedimiento, wow, fue como que rápido.

El doctor dejo grabado en video el procedimiento, debo decir que en principio no quería verlo, sentía que sería algo horrible ver a mi hermano allí recibiendo una descarga eléctrica, como si de un infartado se tratara, luego de un rato accedí a ver el video, y la verdad es que son imágenes bastante fuertes. 40 minutos estuvo sedado, y él dice que sintió que solo cerro y abrió los ojos, gracias a Dios que estaba bajo anestesia y no sintió el dolor que pudo haberle generado tal procedimiento, que le dejo marcados unos buenos hematomas en su abdomen y pecho, sin embargo, no todo fue malo, salió de allí caminando, con un ritmo cardiaco normal, lo cual se diría que ha sido un éxito del procedimiento, así que espero seguir peleando con mi hermano por muchísimos años más, claro está, aún debe continuar con un tratamiento médico, e ir a revisión en tres semanas, para ver cómo va reaccionando. Hoy nuevamente doy fe, de que la mejor manera de vivir es desde el agradecimiento, y agradezco porque, aunque las cosas no han sido fáciles estos últimos años, tengo a mi hermano allí para mí.
