[ENGLISH VERSION IS BELOW]
Ahora te pregunto, mi querido lector: Cómo recuerdas tu etapa universitaria?

Today, we won't be discussing engines, and I won't be sharing my usual stories. Instead, I've chosen this community to publish a very personal article dedicated to my "brother from another mother." It may seem like a strange concept, but I'm sure you have someone in your life who, despite having no blood relation, you consider to be a part of your family. It's remarkable how some friendships can stand the test of time, and this is certainly the case with my closest friend, whom I've always regarded as my brother.
--
I want to share with you all that today is a special day as my brother is finally graduating from university. Yesterday, we attended his thesis presentation, and I was determined to be there for him as I promised from day one. Although we live relatively close to each other, our busy schedules haven't allowed us to see each other in months. He has been working tirelessly on his thesis, and I have been occupied with hospital duties. However, I made necessary changes to be there for him because my mom always taught us that family comes first.
This story started two days ago when my brother invited me to his university to attend his final thesis presentation. I didn't have to think twice and accepted the invitation. I understand how significant this event is for him.
All of our high school classmates are graduating or have already graduated this year, but I haven't yet because I am studying medicine, which is a six-year program.
The day that our family had been eagerly awaiting for four years had finally arrived. I woke up early, and to my surprise, everyone in my house was already up. When I called my brother's house, they informed me that they were about to leave. I left a little earlier than the rest of my family because I couldn't wait to get out of the house. I have to admit that I was also feeling a bit nervous. I made my way to the bus stop, and to my delight, everything seemed to be in my favor as I only had to wait for 10 minutes before the bus arrived. I boarded the bus, which was headed to the other side of the city, where CUJAE is located (I'll tell you about this center another day; for now, just know that it's where all the engineering disciplines gather at the university).
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

After an hour-long journey, I finally arrived at the university. I had only been there once before, so I wasn't familiar with the place. My brother suggested that I enter with a group of students to avoid any issues passing through the security at the main entrance, and I followed his advice. Once inside the university, I felt a bit lost. The campus is divided into different faculties, and the Mechanical Engineering faculty is located at the very end. However, it's not a straightforward walk from one faculty to the next; nothing is that simple in Cuba. Thankfully, I bumped into an old friend who helped me find my way.
After walking through some hallways
Upon arriving at the Mechanical Engineering faculty, I noticed that some people were waiting for other thesis presentations. My brother's presentation was scheduled as the second one, so I searched for him. When he saw me, we hugged each other tightly. It had been months since we last saw each other. He appeared a bit nervous, which was unusual for him, but I couldn't blame him. I would have been even more nervous, and I don't consider myself an anxious person. I whispered some words of encouragement in his ear to help calm his nerves, but I doubted it had much effect.
We waited for our turn to present while I wrote down some notes for this post.
The announcement was made, and it was finally my brother's turn to present. He quickly set everything up and began his presentation. From my seat, I looked around at everyone who had gathered there to show support, and everyone seemed tense and nervous, including myself. For my brother's part, he had to maintain his composure and continue with his presentation, despite a few minor mistakes caused by nervousness.
Overall, he did an excellent job, and I think he even surprised himself. Afterwards, the jury asked some clarifying questions, and my brother's presentation concluded with a proposal for a grade of 5 (the highest possible grade). We could finally all breathe a sigh of relief. His mother (who is like a second mother to me) was in tears and kept saying that he had graduated and that this was his second degree. When I finally reached my brother, we were both speechless due to the overwhelming emotion. The only thing he managed to say to me was, "We finally did it. Thank you for being here with me.
The moment had finally arrived, and my brother's face was beaming with joy. I could only imagine the sense of relief he must have felt after completing his thesis and being free of all the academic pressures. It marked the end of four years of hard work, which were likely the best years of his academic life. I was incredibly proud to have been by his side throughout this journey.
This day holds great significance for us. Although I don't know much about Mechanical Engineering, I have been a source of support for my brother throughout his academic journey in one way or another. I vividly recall his first year when his grades weren't improving, and many at home were worried that he would have to repeat the year. However, I never lost faith in him, and he eventually proved everyone wrong. He doesn't even know how he managed to turn things around, but he did it nonetheless.
.
We've always made a conscious effort to support each other, and when I graduate, his name will definitely be on my list of thank-yous. We would always make sure to note each other's test dates, and as the day approached, we never failed to send each other messages of encouragement.
I'll never forget the notebooks filled with formulas and calculations that I could never understand. I used to tease him because it seemed more like math than mechanics. And when he forced me to study one of his subjects so that we could discuss it together, the conversation usually only went one way. Nonetheless, we always found a way to stay connected, no matter how busy our schedules were.
As I reflect on the past, I realize that the journey my brother took was not an easy one. He had to overcome numerous obstacles and put in a great deal of hard work, but he eventually succeeded. Yesterday marked the end of this chapter, and I'm thrilled that he has finally completed it because it signifies the beginning of a new phase of his life. I hope that we can continue to support each other through the challenges that lie ahead.
Now, let me ask you: How do you remember your university days? If you are still in that phase, how are you experiencing it? Have you ever had to complete a similar project? How did it go? Do you consider yourself a nervous person, or do you think you can handle your nerves well? Please share your experience with similar events. I would be delighted to read and respond to any questions or comments you may have. For now, I must say goodbye as it's time for us to celebrate.
I hope you enjoyed this post, which is a bit out of the ordinary for me. We'll see each other in the next one!
