Super Mario, Sonic y Tetris, estos son seguramente los tres nombres que a la mayoria de los jugadores mas veteranos se les viene a la cabeza cuando hablamos de videojuegos, son los que marcaron la generacion temprana que se puso detras de las consolas y arcades, y sin duda son de los mas reconocidos hoy en dia a pesar de haber visto su primer lanzamiento hace varias decadas, por lo que es curioso como poco ver un juego con tanto estilo y diferente como el que les voy a mostrar en este post.
El Tetris no es un juego que me encante demasiado, creo que es uno de esos juegos que jugaria en alguna fila esperando en la fila del supermercado o en momentos esporadicos de aburrimiento, desde pequeño he jugado diferentes variantes del juego base por lo que cuando vi Tetris Effect no tenia demasiadas esperanzas de que me enganchase como lo hizo,
Seguramente has jugado a muchisimas versiones de Tetris a lo largo de tu vida, pero te aseguro que jamas habias visto a Tetris de esta manera, es envolvente, inspirador, hipnotico y en muchos aspectos renueva bastante el hito de este juego legendario, la premisa sigue siendo la misma que en los años 80s pero la ejecucion es algo completamente aparte, no redefine la jugabilidad del Tetris sino que la glorifica en medio de sonidos envolventes, una sensacion de estar en un spa o en medio de un viaje psicodelico en algunos casos, Tetris Effect con sus visuales hace que redescubramos al juego mas jugado de todos los tiempos de una manera sorprendente, y me ha encantado.
Las mecanicas jugables siguen siendo las mismas, jugamos apilando una serie de bloques uno tras otro en una superficie, si completamos horizontalmente una fila, esta desaparece y nos dan algunos puntos, esta es toda la jugabilidad, la cosa cambia cuando vemos los tableros o los niveles que nos presentan en cada una de nuestras sesiones, todos y cada uno de ellos tienen sus propios diseños, desde imagenes de fondo en full HD de la tierra vista desde el espacio, hasta animaciones de trazos de luz moviendose por toda la pantalla y por supuesto sus canciones originales que hacen que cada nivel sean un autentico viaje si lo jugamos con audifonos, ya ni me quiero imaginar como seria en VR.
Hay varios modos de juego que estan disponibles desde el comienzo, he estado probando un poco de cada modo a excepcion del multijugador (en el cual no habia ni un alma) pero para resumir tenemos el modo Effect y el modo viaje, el primero es una especie de juego libre en cual podemos jugar los niveles que tenemos desbloqueados, el modo viaje es el modo campaña de este juego, con su trama y todo, en donde vamos viajando por diferentes escenarios resolviendo los desafios y los diferentes tableros que encontramos.
El primer nivel de la campaña resume muy bien lo que sera la experiencia Tetris Effect, empezamos siempre en un entorno callado, casi zen, en donde apilamos nuestros primeros bloques, a medida que vayamos haciendo combos y recolectando mas puntos es que el escenario empieza a moverse y la musica a sonar de manera calmada primero, es bastante organico todo y aunque la musica y todos los graficos que aparecen en la pantalla pueden estorbar tu partida en los primeros intentos despues vas entendiendo como funciona todo, mientras mas combos hacemos va aumentando la cantidad de luces que vemos alrededor del tablero y la musica empieza a subir el ritmo, tendremos una dificultad que va aumentando con el paso de los niveles pero jamas me ha parecido que priorice este aspecto, quiere que nosotros vivamos la experiencia en vez de superarla e ir al siguiente nivel de forma rápida.
Aunque que no te engañe ese ultimo parrafo, Tetris Effect puede ser un juego desafiante cuando ya nos adentramos en el viaje, hay situaciones en donde hay un completo giro en cada fase de los niveles, en un momento van lento y parece que la musica es una calmada solo para que al siguiente momentos suba la velocidad y puede ser un castigo muy duro si acabamos desbordando el tablero, porque hay niveles donde estamos poniendo bloques por casi 10 minutos con multiples cambios en la dinamica de los niveles,
Tambien hay algunos agregados bastante decentes en la jugabilidad, si tenemos algun problema con los niveles a los que nos enfrentamos tendremos el bonus de usar el poder de la zona, que nos da la oportunidad de ralentizar un poco el tiempo del tablero ademas de darnos puntos extra por las lineas que limpiemos en este tiempo, asi que hay un poco de variedad al gameplay en especial en los niveles que se nos hagan un poco mas complicados.
Este juego es una victoria en todos los sentidos, jamas me hubiese imaginado jugar nuevamente emocionado uno de esos juegos que me han acompañado toda mi vida y que pensaba que no iba a estar emocionado de volver a su mundo, aunque es un juego que lleva tiempo en el mercado y que ya ha pasado un poco su momento (mirando el multijugador) creo que es una experiencia que te lleva a un viaje, se puede completar en un par de dias y deja una muy buena sensación en la boca, asi que si, lo recomiendo ampliamente.

Super Mario, Sonic y Tetris, these are surely the three names that most veteran gamers think of when we talk about videogames, they are the ones that marked the early generation that got behind the consoles and arcades, and without doubt they are the most recognized today despite having seen its first release several decades ago, so it is curious to see a game with as much style and different as the one I'm going to show you in this post.
Tetris is not a game that I love too much, I think it's one of those games that I would play in a queue waiting in line at the supermarket or in sporadic moments of boredom, since I was a kid I've played different variants of the base game so when I saw Tetris Effect I didn't have too much hope that it would hook me like it did,
You've probably played many versions of Tetris throughout your life, but I assure you that you've never seen Tetris in this way, it's immersive, inspiring, hypnotic and in many ways quite renews the milestone of this legendary game, the premise is still the same as in the 80s but the execution is something completely different, it doesn't redefine Tetris gameplay but glorifies it amidst immersive sounds, a feeling of being in a spa or in the middle of a psychedelic journey in some cases, Tetris Effect with its visuals makes us rediscover the most played game of all times in a surprising way, and I loved it.
The gameplay mechanics remain the same, we play by stacking a series of blocks one after another on a surface, if we complete a row horizontally, it disappears and we get some points, this is all the gameplay, the thing changes when we see the boards or levels that we are presented in each of our sessions, each and every one of them have their own designs, from background images in full HD of the earth seen from space, to animations of light strokes moving across the screen and of course their original songs that make each level a real trip if we play it with headphones, I do not even want to imagine how it would be in VR.
There are several game modes that are available from the start, I've been trying a little of each mode except for multiplayer (in which there was not a soul) but to summarize we have the Effect mode and travel mode, the first is a kind of free game in which we can play the levels we have unlocked, travel mode is the campaign mode of this game, with its plot and everything, where we travel through different scenarios solving the challenges and the different boards that we find.
The first level of the campaign summarizes very well what will be the Tetris Effect experience, we always start in a quiet environment, almost zen, where we stack our first blocks, as we go making combos and collecting more points is that the stage begins to move and the music to sound calmly first, is quite organic everything and although the music and all the graphics that appear on the screen can hinder your game in the first attempts then you understand how it all works, The more combos we make the more lights we see around the board and the music starts to increase the rhythm, we will have a difficulty that increases with the passage of the levels but I have never felt that prioritizes this aspect, wants us to live the experience rather than overcome it and go to the next level quickly.
Don't let that last paragraph fool you though, Tetris Effect can be a challenging game once you get into the journey, there are situations where there is a complete twist to each stage of the levels, one moment they are going slow and it seems like the music is a lull only for the next moment to pick up the speed and it can be a very harsh punishment if you end up overflowing the board, because there are levels where we are laying blocks for almost 10 minutes with multiple changes in the dynamics of the levels,
There are also some pretty decent additions to the gameplay, if we have any problems with the levels we face we will have the bonus of using the power of the zone, which gives us the opportunity to slow down the time of the board a bit as well as giving us extra points for the lines we clear in this time, so there is a bit of variety to the gameplay especially in the levels that get a bit more complicated.
This game is a victory in every way, I would never have imagined playing again excited one of those games that have accompanied me all my life and I thought I was not going to be excited to return to their world, although it is a game that has been on the market for some time and has already passed its moment a little (looking at the multiplayer) I think it is an experience that takes you on a journey, can be completed in a couple of days and leaves a very good feeling in the mouth, so yes, I highly recommend it.
