Nuthatch - Bird can be found all year round

One of the more common birds that can be found the whole year round in Austria is the Nuthatch. But still I like it very much since it is a regular visitor at the bird feeder and running up and down the bark of the trees here at the cementary. It is nice watching them and getting close to them is also not so difficult, at least here in the city, at more natural spots in the forest they are a bit more difficult to spot. I also found some nuthatches near the Inn River in Upper Austria and at a park in Vienna as well as on different spots in Lower Austria.

Most nuthatches are woodland birds and the majority can be found at forests with coniferous trees, although each species has a preference for a particular tree type. Nuthatches climb along tree trunks and branches and are members of the same feeding guild as woodpeckers or treecreepers. During the winter they mostly rely on seeds since insects are not so easy to be found.

That's why they often visit the bird feeder and this spot is usually a nice place where I can get same really closeup pictures of these birds.
