In Nigeria, June 12 is said to be when nigerians celebrate democracy day yet, it makes me wonder, are we still practicing democracy in this country or everything is somehow being runned like a military system while it is still coated as democracy.
From the last time I checked the meaning of Democracy or learnt what Democracy means, I got to understand that it is a system of government runned by the people or majority of the members where they select a representative leader who would serve the people and not rule the people.
From this definition I just made, comparing it to the happenings and how things are done in Nigeria, would we say we are running a democractic system of government? if yes, why? and if No why?
If you wanna know my answer, then it is a big NO. Reason is, where is the democracy when a bill is passed without having the people of the country accepting it. Does democracy apply to murdering its own people cold blooded while fighting for their rights?
Anyways, not to go off the topic of discussion. Democracy day should be a day when we all celebrate the freedom the country has, a free and fair election I mean. Where the country does and makes decisions that matters to the people.
