Siempre que se trate de comida estaré dispuesta a probar cosas nuevas a fin de desbloquear nuevas experiencias y disfrutar de nuevos sabores bien sea preparando comida diferente en casa o comiendo afuera. Algo que siempre he querido probar es el ramen, pues, es de esas comidas poco comunes que llaman mi atención por la pinta que tienen, es por ello que hace unos días cuando vi en el supermercado uno de estos paquetes de ramen para preparar en casa no dudé en llevar un par de estos, que si bien no es precisamente el tipo de ramen que tenía en mente quise experimentar con algo sencillo para empezar.
Whenever it comes to food, I will be willing to try new things in order to unlock new experiences and enjoy new flavors, whether preparing different food at home or eating out. Something that I have always wanted to try is ramen, well, it is one of those unusual foods that catch my attention because of the way they look, which is why a few days ago when I saw one of these packets of ramen in the supermarket to prepare at home I didn't hesitate to bring a couple of these, although it's not exactly the type of ramen I had in mind, I wanted to experiment with something simple to start with.
Había una gran variedad de estas sopas instantáneas, de diferentes marcas, tamaños, sabores, precios y presentaciones, en cuanto a este último podía elegir entre envase o paquete, siendo el primero un poco más costoso y en cuanto a sabores en su mayoría eran de camarón, pero también habían de pollo y carne.
There was a great variety of these instant soups, of different brands, sizes, flavors, prices and presentations, as for the latter you could choose between container or package, the first being a little more expensive and in terms of flavors, they were mostly of shrimp, but they also had chicken and meat.
Terminé eligiendo la marca Top Ramen para probar, esta viene en presentación de paquete de 85 gr por un precio de 0.69$, solo disponían de los sabores pollo y camarón y compré 2 de este último para prepararlos en casa.
I ended up choosing the Top Ramen brand to try, this comes in an 85g package for a price of $0.69, they only had the chicken and shrimp flavors and I bought 2 of the latter to prepare at home.
Llegando a casa me dispuse a leer las instrucciones de preparación y siguiendo unos pocos y simples pasos fue como preparé este ramen, a continuación les muestro el procedimiento.
Arriving home I prepared to read the preparation instructions and following a few simple steps was how I prepared this ramen, below I show you the procedure.
➱ En una olla coloqué una taza de agua a fuego medio/alto.
➱ In a pot I placed a cup of water over medium/high heat.
➱ Mientras el agua hervía destapé el paquete para ver su contenido y en su interior pude ver los fideos y un pequeño sobre con polvo saborizante.
➱ While the water was boiling I uncovered the package to see its contents and inside I could see the noodles and a small envelope with flavoring powder.
➱ Cuando hirvió el agua procedí a incorporar el ramen dejándolo unos minutos para que se despegara y ablandara.
➱ When the water boiled, I proceeded to add the ramen, leaving it for a few minutes to loosen and soften.
➱ Mezclé cada cierto tiempo para asegurarme de que el ramen se despegara por completo y pudiera cocinarse correctamente, en las instrucciones decía que el tiempo ideal de cocción eran 3 minutos o hasta que el ramen se ablandara y en mi caso se tomó un poco más de ese tiempo aunque no tanto.
➱ I mixed every once in a while to make sure the ramen was completely loosened and could be cooked correctly, the instructions said that the ideal cooking time was 3 minutes or until the ramen became soft and in my case it took a little longer that time although not that long.
➱ Cuando noté que ya el ramen se había ablandado apagué el fuego y procedí a agregar el sobre de saborizante, luego mezclé para que se uniera bien con el ramen y no le quedaran grumos.
➱ When I noticed that the ramen had already softened, I turned off the heat and proceeded to add the sachet of flavoring, then I mixed so that it joined well with the ramen and there were no lumps left.
➱ Debo decir que creí que el saborizante aportaría color a la preparación pero apenas y se notaba un tono más oscuro que el que tenía al principio. Lo dejé reposar unos pocos minutos con la idea de que pudieran intensificarse los sabores y luego serví.
➱ I must say that I thought the flavoring would add color to the preparation but it was barely noticeable a darker tone than the one it had at the beginning. I let it rest for a few minutes with the idea that the flavors could intensify and then I served.
Para ser sincera este ramen no me pareció la gran cosa, sabía que por el precio no podría esperar tanto pero fue mucho menos de lo que imaginé. Una de las cosas que decía en las instrucciones era que el sobre de saborizante era “alto en sodio” y que debía ser cuidadosa al momento de agregarlo pero la verdad es que me pareció bastante insípido, no es mucho el sabor que aporta al ramen, de hecho tuve que agregar algo de condimento para poder sentir algo de sabor porque el del sobre casi ni se siente.
To be honest, this ramen didn't seem like a big deal to me, I knew that for the price I couldn't expect that much but it was much less than I imagined. One of the things it said in the instructions was that the flavoring packet was “high in sodium” and that I should be careful when adding it, but the truth is that it seemed quite tasteless to me, it doesn't add much flavor to the ramen, In fact I had to add some seasoning to be able to feel some flavor because the one in the packet is barely noticeable.
Por más que el ramen dijera “sabor a camarones” no lo encontré para nada parecido a lo que dice que es y es que como les dije casi ni tenia sabor y mucho menos era a camarón. La cantidad si me pareció adecuada para su precio, con un solo paquete come una persona y en mi caso quedé bastante satisfecha a pesar de que solo son los fideos y agua saborizada por así decirlo.
Even though the ramen said “shrimp flavor,” I didn't find it at all similar to what it says it is and, as I told you, it barely had any flavor and much less was like shrimp. The quantity seemed adequate for its price, with just one package one person eats and in my case I was quite satisfied even though it is only the noodles and flavored water so to speak.
Si me parece una opción práctica para sacarnos de algún apuro cuando no hay tiempo de cocinar pero tendría que ser un caso muy muy especial. Puede que este tipo de ramen sea perfecto como base para preparar uno más elaborado y con más ingredientes pero ese es un experimento que quiero hacer en otro momento. Tenía pensado probar el de sabor a pollo pero creo que mejor le doy la oportunidad a otra de las marcas que vi en el supermercado y por su puesto les estaré contando al respecto, mientras tanto les dejo esta reseña del único ramen que he probado hasta ahora que aunque no fue una cosa del otro mundo me gustó haberlo probado.
Yes, it seems like a practical option to get us out of trouble when there is no time to cook, but it would have to be a very very special case. This type of ramen may be perfect as a base to prepare a more elaborate one with more ingredients, but that is an experiment that I want to do another time. I was planning to try the chicken flavor but I think I'd better give it a chance to another of the brands I saw in the supermarket and of course I will be telling you about it, in the meantime I leave you this review of the only ramen I have tried so far Although it wasn't something out of this world, I liked having tried it.
