I was at the Thailand airport, when I saw an odd advertisement about buying “whiting cream.” They were selling different creams that would make your skin as white as milk. Seeing this advertisement really saddened me because there are so many people who want to be “someone” else.
In America, it is common for people to want to be “tanner.” People go to extremes, to achieve this goal. They lie in tanning beds, bask in the sun, or apply spray tans to get darker. While they may temporary “achieve” a bronze look, they are at much higher risk for skin cancer.
What is ironic is that people across the world want what they don’t have. The people in Asia want to be “whiter.” While, the people in America want to be darker.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If only people in the world could see that no matter what your skin complexion is, we are all beautiful.
