What to do with the person who has a Lyme disease?

  • Gently remove the tick using tweezers
  • Wash the skin with antiseptic solution appropriately and
  • Dispose the tick by flushing it down to the toilet or place it in a sealed jar so that health care provider can inspect it and determine its type.
  • Blood test is performed, 4 to 6 weeks after the bite in order to detect the presence of the disease. Testing before the bite is not reliable.
  • Administration of antibiotics may be recommended per doctor's prescription. Usually, antibiotic taking is initiated immediately by the healthcare provider, even the blood testing result is unknown.
  • Instruct the client to avoid places prone to tick bites or that contain lots of ticks, like wooden grassy areas, especially in the summer months.
  • Instruct the client to wear long-sleeved tops, long pants, closes shoes, and hats while outside.
  • Instruct the client to use tick repellant sprays before going outside.
  • Instruct the client to examine and determine the body for any tick presence after returning inside.
