African children and their health risks

Nutritional deficiencies and illnesses are threats to Child survival in Nigeria, the following illnesses account for the majority of morbidity and mortality in childhood. Particularly malaria, diarrheal diseases, acute respiratory infections (ARI), and vaccine preventable diseases (VPD).

Child mortality rate in Nigeria has worsened and it's evaluated at 100.2 death per 1000 life births as at 2017.

Below are six solutions which according to the World Health Organization, are solutions to the most preventable causes of under-5 deaths these solutions can save lives as well as reducing child mortality

  1. Immediate and exclusive breastfeeding.

  2. Skilled attendants for antenatal, birth, and postnatal care.

  3. Access to nutrition and micronutrients.

  4. Family knowledge of danger signs in a child’s health

  5. Improved access to water, sanitation, and hygiene

  6. Immunisations.
