It started with a single ginger hair.

Her hair was short and blond, and her husband's greying and also short.

Ginger. He always had a thing about ginger hair.

Well, if she couldn't have him, no one would.

She cleaned the knife and put it back on the rack in the kitchen.

That ginger hair on her pillow! She had had suspicions before, of course she had. She had had to fight the feelings of paranoia and suspicions all her life.

But no more.

The doorbell rang, and, after checking her clothes for tell-tale spots of blood, she answered the door, smile in place.

"Hello Judy!" she said.

Her neighbour stood there bottle of wine in hand.

"I just wanted to thank you" she said, handing over the wine. "For letting me borrow your house," she said, noting Claire's confusion. "You know, at the weekend, whist you were both away. It really helped me out, with the family party and me having a full house. My daughter said she had such a comfortable nights sleep. She said sorry she didn't have time to change the sheets, and sent this over as an apology..."
