The Importance of Local Food

My family has been in the grocery business for over 50 years, a small independent chain in Baltimore city.

During the growing months we pick up produce daily from local farms up to 18 miles from the store.

This is important as it helps the farmers, and our business. More importantly it allows for fresh picked wholesome produce to be made available in urban areas.

Most of the time the produce at the grocery store is at least 2 weeks old when shipped in. This depletes the nutritional value and taste!

Sometimes it pays to shop local, knowing where your food came from also brings peace of mind.
