Carbohydrates are source of energy for all creatures. For us people they are the cause of illness, diabetes and obesity.
If we know them well and we consume them properly, we should not be scared of carbs. They are carbon, oxygen and hydrogen compounds.
Depending on the complexity of molecules, they are divided into simple and complex.

Some of the classic carbohydrates that you can find in daily diet are: sugar, bread, biscuits, pasta, potatoes, cereals and other food that may contain trace of carbohydrates.

These foods are a good source of energy, and some are useful because they're necessary elements of a balanced diet.

Eating a lot of simple carbohydrates, such as refined white sugar- can be bad to our health. Diabetes, obesity and caries are some of the most common diseases caused by the intake of large amounts of sugar.

Tips for optimum carbohydrate intake:

  • Eat moderately
  • Eat more complex carbohydrates
  • Avoid simple carbohydrates
  • Eat unrefined food
  • Reduce the kitchen sugar to a minimum

When you buy food, study the hidden ingredients such as sugar under various names: glucose, fructose, lactose, sucrose etc.
As a rule, everything that ends on - ose is sugar.

Try to eat unprocessed starchy foods such as: rice, legumes, root vegetables, bananas, whole grains and their products.

This food contain vitamins, minerals and fibers with carbohydrates:

  • Pasta from integral flour
  • Rice of full grain
  • Grain flakes (unprocessed, without added sugar)
  • Bread made from integral whole grains
  • Beans and legumes, seeds, lentils
  • Potato
  • Fresh vegetable salad
  • Fruit

If you are trying to loose weight, do not avoide carbohydrates, try to eat more complex carbohydrates. For example try to make your own cereals instead of buying one with unecessary sugars.
