Some surveys have shown that around 70% of people report saying that fast food is a luxury because it is too expensive now.
One of the main features of fast food for decades has been that this is a cheap option for eating.
But is that the case any longer?
With inflation we've seen things go up on the menu.
The average price is upwards of $10 now and in many cases you might be paying between $15-$20 for a combo.
an inflation issue for fast food
Fewer customers are going to be coming through when fast food prices are at these levels.
Even if those customers want to buy the food, it's getting to the point they won't be able to afford it. Some 60% of Americans are allegedly buying less fast food now already due to high prices.
is it a sign of a strong economy when a fast food meal becomes a flex?
It doesn't really signal an abundance of prosperity when people are suggesting that fast food is now a luxury of any sort.
There is plenty of economic anxiety still ongoing with millions who are watching their spending, sticking to budgets, and cutting back on things like entertainment, food, and other areas.
They're even spending less on travel as well, despite experiences being one of the top areas where people want to most spend their money, especially when it comes to the spending habits of younger generations.
It seems that most Americans view the economy as being in a poor state still, and those who are buying their own groceries and applying for jobs might have a clearer perspective on things than policy makers who want to maintain that everything is fine and it's all on the upward swing.
Inflation is still a top issue of the day with voters and they will no doubt be keeping that in mind when they turn in their votes. Despite those worries though, there are plenty of messages circulating insisting that the economy is strong and things aren't as bad as they seem.
