Recipe Friday - Lasagna

This is the recipe my mom passed on to me, and it's the only one I use now. It's way easy to make and it tastes so good. Plus, it allows for substitutions/additions to fit your own taste.

Ingredients

  • 2 - 15oz cans of plain tomato sauce
  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1lb lean ground beef or ground turkey
  • 16 to 32oz mozzarella cheese - thinly sliced**
Salt, pepper, crushed red pepper, basil, oregano, paprika, and onion powder (I rarely measure these out, I just add to taste for each one)

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees

  • Spray bottom of 13x9 baking dish with cooking spray

  • Brown ground beef or turkey in large skillet

  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package directions

  • Once meat is cooked, add both cans of tomato sauce to skillet and stir to combine

  • Add spices to taste

  • Once meat sauce is warmed throughout, add one fourth of the sauce to the bottom of the greased baking dish

  • Cover sauce with three lasagna noodles

  • Add one fourth of the sauce on top of the first layer of noodles

  • Then cover sauce with slices of mozzarella cheese

  • Add a second layer of three noodles, cover with sauce, and cover with cheese

  • Repeat for the third layer, making sure all edges of the noodles are covered with sauce

  • Bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes

  • Once done, let the dish sit for 5 minutes to set up (this makes it easier to serve from the pan)

**You can add more or less cheese to suit your taste. I've even used some Ricotta for one layer and it was yummy!
