Bangkok –
plenty to see and experience here! This is the initial stop of most travelers so let’s start off with seeing ladyboys all over, walking through Soi Cowboy (trust me, it is an experience you wouldn’t forget, especially if you’re traveling with a man) to shopping in Chatuchak Market or Terminal 21 or partying in Khao San Road. If you happen to be in the area during Songkran, prepare for the biggest water fight you have ever been a part of! You also have to ride a tuk-tuk while you’re in the area, bet you don’t have anything like that in your hometown.
Kanchanaburi –
walking down the bridge over the River Kwai – which was also called the Death Railway to Burma. It was one of the most moving experiences which affected a lot of Allied Forces during World War II and also seeing the Museum & War Cemetery.
Kho Pha Ngan –
Full Moon Party! If you didn’t come in time for the Full Moon Party, there’s the option of going to the Half Moon Party or the New Moon Party. Don’t like partying? Don’t fret – Bottle Beach is an amazing destination for itself.
Kho Tao –
The best place to learn how to scuba dive in the country, with plenty of options and price ranges at every corner.
Chiang Mai -
One of the prettiest and most charming places in Thailand, you can pet or ride an elephant, or learn how to do Muay Thai. You can also time your visit in time for the Loi Krathong (Lantern Festival) – where everyone lights up a candle inside a paper lantern (khom Lois) and releases it to the sky. So pretty yet so serene at the same time. Shopping is also amazing in this part of Thailand, with various unique handicrafts you can pick up at very low prices.
Chiang Rai –
see the various temples dotted in the city, including the most famous, the White Temple.
Kho Phi Phi –
Go island hopping and visit the place (Kho Phi Phi Le) where they shot the cult movie favorite, The Beach. This place was devastated during the tsunami of 2004, but they rebuilt it and it is now as pretty as ever.
Sukhothai –
A UNESCO World Heritage site, it is full of ruins and perfect for the history buff.
