Exotic Food: Balut/Balot

I so happened to found a photo that I took way back in 2012 from my ipod touch. I think it's good to share it. Sorry for the quality of the photo as it was only taken using an Ipod touch.

We call it here in the Philippines as balu/balot. If you don't know what balut is, here:

"A balut is a fertilized duck (or chicken) egg with a nearly-developed embryo inside that is boiled and eaten in the shell. They are common, everyday food in some countries in Southeast Asia, such as in the Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Popularly believed to be an aphrodisiac and considered a high-protein, hearty snack, balut are mostly sold by street vendors in the regions where they are available." - wikipedia

Balot is very famous street food here in the Philippines you can almost found it in every corner of the street specially at night. It is usually serve fresh and warm with a matching of salt and chili vinegar. Not all people like balot, maybe because what it looks like after peeling the shell as you will see a not fully develop duck/chicken. Some you may see the internal parts/organ of the duck. It may look gross to some, but for me I don't mind. Well if you haven't eaten balot I dare you to try one, it just look gross but it's really delicious. They say it's rich in protein. Happy eating steemians. _
