In Papua, this matoa tree grows and spreads in almost every region, including: Seko (Jayapura) plains; Wondoswaar-Weoswar island, Anjai Kebar, Warmare, Armina-Bintuni, Ransiki, Pami-Nuni (Manokwari); Samabusa-Nabire, and the island of Yapen (Karyaatmaja and Suripatty, 1997). this Matoa tree grows in groups in certain places such as in the forest. Naturally, if this matoa tree is known as a typical plant of Papua and is a flora of identity and pride of the people of Papua Province.
Some say the taste of matoa is changing, some say the taste of matoa is like rambutan fruit. Some say it's like durian fruit. The point is that the taste of the matoa is hard to define, it feels "crowded" and that certainly feels sweet. I personally think the aroma and taste of this matoa is like the taste of rambutan fruit and klengkeng fruit.
