SAMAN DANCE

Saman Dance is a dance from the province of Aceh originating from Gayo tribe which is one of the tribes that exist in Aceh. Saman dance is usually played at traditional events or official government events and events commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad SAW. This Saman dance poet is sung in Gayo. Basically this saman dance is a medium of da'wah used by previous scholars in the Gayo highlands. This dance poem is called "Ganit". Saman Dance is only male, the number of Saman dance players is usually numbered odd like 11, 13 and so on. The more dancers will be the more festive dance. Saman dance is guided by a "syech" who has a duty to give cue and sing the poem. Saman dance uses only two elements of motion that is clapping hands and patting the chest, the uniqueness of this dance is on the uniformity of amazing motion, body movement and religious elements.
