It is believed that chewing gum while walking positively affects physical and physiological functions. This has come out a new study conducted by the University of Waseda (Tokyo, Japan) has discovered that chewing gum can help lose weight if consumed while walking. The research was published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science and presented this week at the 25th European Obesity Congress in Vienna, Austria.
To verify if this was true 46 people of both sexes, between 21 and 69 years old, participated in two randomized trials. In the first, they received two 3-gallon gum balls to chew during a 15-minute walk. Quite curious this can lose weight by a simple chewing gum that you could buy in the store lose weight so easy. In the second test (control group), they walked for 15 minutes, but without chewing anything. Instead, they were asked to ingest a powder that contained the same ingredients as a chewing gum. During the experiment the resting and walking heart rate was measured, the distance traveled and the average speed of the steps. The total energy expenditure was calculated using average speed and body mass. the scientists found that the average heart rate of men and women participants was significantly higher than that of the control group. Also, men older than 40 years experienced a more positive effect. They tell us that exercising is beneficial for health so do not forget to buy some chewing gum when you exercise
