The Nightmare Move
Let's be honest, moving one home to another home sucks.
You have to uproot your whole existence, spend time packing and compartmentalizing your entire home, usually starting with things that are non-essential and then moving up the priority chain till moving day where things you really need are packed up as well.
The state of limbo is entered and take-out is ordered, the whole process begins to reverse. Unpacking.
I did not need to move too far so it was a bunch of short trips to the new place. Regardless, after a day of moving and a very sore body, I needed to ask my boss for another day off for another day of moving.
On top of that the nightmarish rental agency of the place where I was staying before with their shady business tactics... I can go on and on about that one, but let's just say that the struggle is still not over there.
I had massive water leak issues in the old place and they have been trying to get me to pay all sorts of things... really not a pleasant experience.
The Bed Problem
Well, one major hurdle in my path was the fact that a queen size bed cannot be carried up the stairs as it is far too large to get up there!
So we spent our first week or so sleeping on the floor before I had enough time to pull apart the bed plank by plank and reassemble it upstairs.
Here are some actions shots of that process:
Some of the mess in the lounge as we were moving in. The queen size base really stopped me from doing anything in that space.
The first few planks out were slow going until I got the knack for it. These screws were never made to come out again, some of them were glued in with the planks.
Finally, all the planks were out and only the frame remained. Meren is happy with the progress and he helped me a lot prepping screws to come out and taking out screws I managed to start removing.
I am not much of a drinker, but I had to celebrate on this milestone! Smirnoff Spin! Do you guys have it wherever you are?
The bed was transported upstairs and the reassembly was a lot faster than the stripping.
And finally...
We had a bed again!
So, to be honest, I had to break out some of the planks completely and put in new screws in other places but overall, it is just as sturdy as it was before.
The Dream became reality
Some more home projects later (which I will share later on...) and things are coming together nicely and just in time for Christmas.
Proudly showing off our keys to our new place in our new garden!
A Christmas tree. No lights on it yet, but we finally got it up today!
I love you @clairemobey!
