HAIR RELATED; CONSEQUENCES OF KEEPING YOUR NATURAL HAIR IN NIGERIA.

Hello my steemit friends, happy new week. May we have a fulfilled and blessed week IJN. I'll be sharing my experience the first time I tried to do wash and go with my hair. My hair is in it natural state that is its not been exposed to chemicals. And being african, it assumes a shrinkage nature almost all the time. Below is my hair in a little bit stretched form because i just took down the braids i had on it.

After watching lots of tutorials on how to go about the wash and go, I decided to buy Eco styler gel.

Below I'll be showing you the pictures of the products I used for my hair and the gel I used.

  • The leave-in conditioner is to soften the hair.

  • To enhance curls, although it doesn't really work much with my curls cus my hair is mostly chunky, I realize it lay my edges well. I just use it to get a smooth, lay down hair when I pack it.

  • I love VO5 for my shampoo and conditioner, it washes my hair clean, softens it and gives a lovely smell. I always recommend it always.

  • I love coconut oil for my choice of oil because its rich and contains lots of nutrients for the hair.

  • They dont really sell a spray bottle where is live so I used a perfume bottle. It contains water and oil.

  • Here comes the gel I used. This the only tyle of Eco-styler gel i could get in store so i decided to use it for the wash and go and I regretted ever trying that.

PROCESS

  • I washed my hair.
  • I detangled it.
  • On wet hair, I parted small sections and applied oil, then the gel.
  • I used my fingers to bring out the curls.
  • I repeated same process all through my hair till I'm done.

Below is the resulting look.

Initially I loved the result but after few hours when its dry, I realized it was an hair failure. As soon as its dry, the curls were already disappearing and the back hair had become chunky as seen below.

By the next day, my hair had returned to its natural state with just little curls as seen below.

It was a waste of time, energy and gel. And it made me realized some things which I'll be highlighting below.

  • Nigeria weather condition doesnt really smile on such styles because its so dry and hot.
  • My hair texture is different from the others so what worked for A might not work for me.
  • It is better to not use gel for such styles, i think its best to use curling cream.
  • For me, the best styles you can do as a Naturalist in Nigeria are protective styles like braids, twist, twist out and ordinary styling or packing.

On a regular day when I'm not on protective styles, I just pack it as seen below.
